My thanks to everyone who is trying to help with this problem. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone! I have also ticked 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' and selected 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server'. No other options on that screen (Internet E-mail Settings) are selected. 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)' on the POP3 screen is not selected. Emails to hotmail.com are still being rejected. I use Outlook and have also tried using webmail - same result. So far, emails to gmail are succeeding, but having read up round this issue I guess it's just a matter of time ... Thanks again, everyone. ... View more

And no, my experience doesn't suggest that this is because my email address is a plusnet one. Emails I've sent to non-hotmail addresses have not failed. Many people have reported the same problem over the last couple of days and they were not sending from plusnet. ... View more

Exactly the same thing, in this case the email addresses I tried to send to were hotmail.com (two different addresses). This seems to have something to do with increased domain authentication requirements between Outlook and hotmail, which have been implemented very recently. Any so-called 'help to fix the issue' that I have looked at has been extremely technical, meant for IT experts/departments and not the ordinary domestic user.
