End of Day: 12th November

End of Day: 12th November

End of Day: 12th November

It's been a busy Monday in all departments here at PlusNet. Regular editor Colin has handed me the EOD reigns for a change. Gavin from Quality Assurance: It's been another day of project and problem testing here in QA. Matt B is on holiday after working this weekend. Matt R, Catherine, Nige and Gary have been beavering away with project testing, aided with kind donation of a jar of Jelly Belly Beans to the Development floor (being Quality Assurance we had to sample them fully Wink ). Paul has been working to reduce the problem testing pool, and I've been assured that he does not listen to the Spice Girls! Along with volunteering me to do the QA EOD Steve has mainly been in meetings today, and we've not seen much of him. I've been doing some project testing, and modifying our automated testing scripts. We use a programme called QA Wizard to continually regression test the platform. This is done to aid us with finding problems, before customers see them. Martyn from Marketing: So it's the start of another week in Marketing. Today we've been working on prototypes for some forthcoming Christmas promotions (I even watched Santa Claus The Movie yesterday to get myself in the mood). Keep your eyes on www.plus.net over the next couple of weeks and you'll see what we've been up to. Away from the festive fun, we've had a busy schedule of meetings, we've been reviewing more applications for our vacant web designer position and Chris has received a great big box of computer games in the post (they're not for him though, they'll be winging their way out to some more of the first 100 people who signed up for Broadband Your Way Pro). That's all from us today, see you tomorrow. Darren from Product Development: So it’s back to me for the End of Day, we will be having a different member of Products doing it each day this week (it’s nice to have a bit of variety). Today is a typical Monday, meaning everyone has been extremely busy. The Monday morning reports took a little longer than usual as there were a lot of morning queries from various departments. I have also continued my ongoing quest of chasing BT about a hardware stock issue (fingers crossed will be sorted out this week). I also had a chance to catch up with a few of my small tasks. Shaun has been working on Churn, attended the weekly products review and started work on forecasting for finance. Rich is working on our VoIP platform, this includes; getting the trial T&Cs signed off, FAQ pages signed off, building trial call tariff and updated the project spec. Dave has attended the DSL Pipe balancing meeting and products EOW catch-up meeting. He has also gone through tickets and continued with hardware testing. Ian has been very busy attending several meetings. He has also worked on the VoIP FAQ and is preparing for supplier visits to PlusNet Towers this week. James from Finance: A new week starts in Finance and we have plenty of activities to attend to with Mark and Fiona on holiday this week. The other Mark has been looking after the failed billing team in fiona's absence. Mike and Magda have been putting the final, final touches to the strat plan and I have been completing the VAT return for the month. Today we have closed 123 tickets. Helen from Development: Hi, my name is Helen, I am a Development Team Manager here at PlusNet. I would say I was quite new having only started a few weeks ago but it no longer feels like I am new. That's the great thing about PlusNet everyone instantly feels at home. The 'new guy' concept doesn't exist here! There's no such thing as Monday blues at PlusNet. All the developers are really enthusiastic about meeting a tight deadline for a major project. Our regular morning meeting identified where everyone was up to and what needed doing for the day. The development work so far is in testing so most of the team are working on fixing any bugs. Luckily the bugs aren't of the big horrible cockroach style but more the little cute ladybird style. My role is to ensure all the guys know what they are doing, that they remain focused and motivated and the big jar of jelly beans opposite my desk gets eaten by the end of the day. In the midst of eating too many jelly beans I'm busy getting new PHP developers on board, lots of interviews to do. You too could be working for us in PlusNet, take a look at our careers page and join a fantastic team. So, that's all from Dev and the big jar of jelly beans for today Chris from Comms: Well it's another week and I'm feeling better today so here is the comms update. James has been doing his usual rounds in the forums and dealing with some personal tickets. He's also been involved in some project work which you may notice in the future. I've was training some n00bs for the morning and helping send out free games this afternoon to the first 100 sign-ups to BBYW pro. I've found some time to deal with problems and some forum posts too. Mand has been busy dealing with queries on the community site as well as offering her normal high levels of support to anyone who asks a question. Bob has been hiding upstairs this afternoon dealing with network change controls and writing a few service status posts. He's also been preparing some comms on the VoIP platform to go out soon. Josh from Networks: I'm Josh, working in the Network Development team. So, this is my first customer EOD and today I have been working on our systems documentation, as well as catching up on a backlog of work from working out of the office for a while. The rest of the team... Dan: Tickets Ben: Testing of DNS scripts for Postini Mark: Investigating faults on the DSL platform over the weekend and putting the newest 622 segment live Patryk: Monitoring Mike: Web storage upgrade documentation Michael: Working with QA on our internal testing platform Rizwan: Working on VOIP and our internal spam filtering Russ: Working on the mail platform for the CriticalPath trial and systems monitoring Simon: Meeting with 3rd party vendors Dan: Tickets Rick: Tickets ... and more importantly a hole in 1 on Wii golf! And finally, Tamlyn from the Web Portal Team: Colin's been building the new WordPress skin for the Community site and checking out relevant plugins. Rupert has been busy fixing a problem with the referrals system. James has been testing an exciting new app for the Community Site. Can't tell you exactly what it is yet but if it all works out it should be very useful. Sam's updated the Careers page (not quite live yet). I've been sorting out my development environment and getting the MyBroadbandSpeed code into CVS. It'll be coming out of beta soon so you will be able to start using it from My Account.
