TG589vn v3 drops connection

On my old Sky connection, the line would stay synced for between 70- 90 days at a time before a (usually) stale connection would require a reboot. When I moved to PN, the supplied router into the Or modem was also pretty stable. Since buying my own modem/ router though, it seems that my connection is dropping every 5 days or so. Not sure why, is it just because the equipment is naff? PN were trialling these some time ago, but never rolled them out, is this one of the reasons why?
My system information is as follow:
#System Information
This page summarizes important information on your MediaAccess Gateway. You may need this information when you contact your helpdesk.
Product Name: TG589vn v3
Serial Number: N/A
Software Release: 10.5.2.F
Software Variant: BN
Boot Loader Version: 2.0.8
Product Code: 37146170
Board Name: VDNT-1

My latest connection stats are as follows:

#DSL Connection
Link Information
Uptime: 0 days, 5:33:17
DSL Type: ITU-T G.993.2 Annex B (VDSL2)
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 15.061 / 49.237
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [B/B]: 0 / 0
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 6,8 / 12,7
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 1,9 / 14,8
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6,1 / 5,9
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 21 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 329 / 2.035.523
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 21 / 106
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1.279

That said, every time the line re- syncs, the line rate seems to go up (luckily), over the last month going up from 43- 49!! Would like the stability back though is possible.
Thanks
Mark

Re: TG589vn v3 drops connection

Which kind of Openreach modem did you use previously?
Perhaps ask Plusnet to put you on the most stable DLM option if stability is particularly important to you. BT Wholesale call the three DLM options Standard, Stable and Super Stable, and Openreach call those same three options Speed, Standard and Stable respectively.

Re: TG589vn v3 drops connection

I had the ECI modem before. Not sure why I would want to restrict my profile if it is the router that is causing the issue? As mentioned previously, the connection was stable with the previous ISP and the PN supplied router, it appears to be this new modem/ router I bought that is causing issue (or potentially causing issues). 2 days since the last drop now. Just seems very strange, not overly worried so long as I am not penalised by DLM. If it is a router issue, i'd rather get it sorted while still within the "easy to get fixed" period.

Re: TG589vn v3 drops connection

The ECI modems contain a Lantiq chipset. The 589vn v3 has a Broadcom chipset. Different chipsets tend to perform differently. The drops could just be the DLM making adjustments according to the performance of the new modem.

Re: TG589vn v3 drops connection

So a bit like a training period then? That would make sense  Smiley

Re: TG589vn v3 drops connection

Not exactly like a training period, it's just that the DLM constantly monitors the stability of the line.
Most people seem to find that Broadcom based DSL hardware works best for them, although there's usually a minority who find something else works better on their particular line.
Another possibility is that apparently Openreach are rolling out changes to how all VDSL2 lines operate, enabling packets to be re-transmitted at a low level. Once that change reaches your line, the DLM might determine it could reduce the interleaving level and instead rely more on re-transmitting any data the gets corrupted in transmission.

Re: TG589vn v3 drops connection

Given up on it now and trying to send it back. Wireless keeps dropping out once a day now. I need to disable the wireless and re- enable it again to get it to work. Real shame as it is a nice looking router and did just what I wanted it to do  Sad

Re: TG589vn v3 drops connection

I used one for over a year, then it started rebooting daily. sometimes several times.
It must have a weak capacitor in it somewhere.
