I have just received a spam email which says it's from me I don't remember having got one of these before. I'm a bit worried about this and whats the best way of dealing with it, as I dont want my own email address marked as spam or blacklisted?
I absolutely loath these spammers

I used to receive hundreds of these each day.
But I responded to advice from this site to disallow catchall.
You need to enable any email addresses you want to keep before you do this e.g. me@username.plusnet.com, mywife@username.plusnet.com, porn@username.plusname.com
Now, after doing this I am getting hardly any spam at all.
Take care

even that doesn't help 100%, I have fifteen alias set up and left catchall on, and I am still getting commercial e-mails that I want to a different name to the one they used last time, I also have a son in Australia who says he is too busy to send individual letter, so he sends out round robin letter, he doesnt seem to rember the title he used last one so I get yet another name, His main mail addrss are BCC (Blind Copy)

Interesting idea, dial the correct std code (=domain name) and then a random set of numbers (=mailbox) and expect to get through to the person you want!

I haven't had any more since so hopefully they have moved on and will not bother me any more. I don't think I have been moved onto the postini anti-spam platform yet would it prevent this type of spam or would my own email address be marked as spam? if so would I still have to accept this rubbish, but thinking about it I never email myself anyway

unfortunately it wont stop this form of spam at all, and it wont get you blacklisted either.
The spam is generated by some !@#$%!#@%&#$% character who fakes you address, unfortunately to other people as well as yourself, so you might get some bounced e-mail from who knows where.
