Signing into Gmail on Chrome

Can anyone help with using Gmail on Chrome, please ?

In the past, when I signed into my Gmail, my username and password were automatically entered using "Autofill".  Suddenly, it stopped working.  I have spent hours trying to resolve this but to no avail.

I have followed all the instructions and gone to "Password Manager", and "Offer to save Passwords" and "Sign in automatically" are both turned ON.  But it makes no difference, despite the fact that I have a list of about 20 sites of Saved Passwords, including Gmail, of course.

It is so irritating because it was never like this before.  I think that it was "spooked" following an update of some sort.

Can anyone who is familiar with Gmail offer any suggestions please ?  I do not want to have to change my email client because far too many people know my Gmail address and it would be a nightmare to do so.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks.

Being flippant...

Halloween is approaching.

(Sorry, I don't use Gmail or Chrome).

Re: Signing into Gmail on Chrome

@shermans

I have found this regarding gmail

To prevent constantly signing into Gmail every time you open up Chrome, you need to:
Turn off the setting "Clear cookies and site data when you quit Chrome".

You can find this setting by:
going to the top right, click More Settings.
searching for "Site settings".
clicking on "Site settings".
clicking on "Cookies and site data"
The second entry from the top will read "Clear cookies and site data when you quit Chrome". Make sure this is turned off.

Hope this is the answer you're looking for

Re: Signing into Gmail on Chrome

Alternatively, use Thunderbird as your email client, ....  you will have to give Thunderbird permission to access your Gmail.... but only the one time, ( unless an update changes some permissions or something) . but you will get a warning noitce message on Thunderbird when it needs permission granted.

I have 4  gmail addresses, and Thunderbird handles them all, seamlessly.

I'm not sure I understand. If you can sign into your google account  and can access your password managers then you should be able open the gmail webpage from there using the gmail link in the top right.

Re: Signing into Gmail on Chrome

That is the problem - nor do I !  The Gmail password is listed in Password Manager as are others which sometimes work and sometimes don't.

Re: Signing into Gmail on Chrome

Thanks for the idea, but unfortunately "Clear cookies and site data when you quit Chrome" is not listed as an option !  I am at my wits end over this and am thinking of deleting Chrome and starting over from new.  I will take a print-out of all the passwords first though !

Re: Signing into Gmail on Chrome

However, I have just found under "Clear browsing data"  the option to delete "Passwords and other Sign-in data" which is however unticked.  As there are 83 passwords apparently, (but it does not list them !) I am loathe to untick them to see if it makes a difference.  It should NOT because if I untick them, then the passwords will all be deleted from the browsing data, which I do not want to do, as they all work fine except the Gmail one.
