Someone else on these forums tried connecting two routers to the phone line at the time - and then wondered why they had problems!

I know this is off thread so sorry for stepping out of line but is there a way to make a pc automatically boot into the 'last know good config' everytime?

You're right, it's a stupid idea. I just thought it would be a solution to a problem I have with another pc of mine which simply doesn't boot anymore.
It was working ok on and off but now something has definitely died....

If you want to use a router as a switch you should also disable NAT and DHCP in the second router.
With reference to the PC that has died- do you have the original Windows XP install media? There are some troubleshooting and recovery steps you can follow- but we need to know if you have the disc or not.
