Any similarities?

Nah that appears to be a different issue, this noise isn't high pitched. I'm going to try and record it tonight.

Hi Andy,
I've sent you a new one out as we'd like to get that unit back to have a look at and test what the issue is. I'll send a bag out separately as we'd want that unit returning to us here rather than back to the warehouse if possible?

Re: Plusnet Hub One

Anyone know how to change the DNS servers on the Hub One?
According to the Help page that's included in the Hub One's UI:
  Primary and Secondary DNS
Address of your service provider's DNS Server (Domain Name Server).
Note: this is used to translate web URLs into IP addresses. This server setting is allocated automatically when you connect to broadband. You can't change it yourself as it is set by the Network.
I don't see why they cannot be changed. Infact it's one of the first things that I wanted to change given the poor performance of the PlusNet DNS servers.
Having moved from ADSL to fibre today I am less than impressed when web sites are taking longer to load than before simply because the DNS lookup is slow.
I have now configured my desktop to set its own DNS servers but it would be good to have all other devices that connect to the Hub One to use non PlusNet DNS servers - ones that perform!

Re: Plusnet Hub One

Hi klerm, welcome to the forum.
If the manual says you can't configure the DNS settings, then you can't. This is also the case with BT's current Home Hubs.
The only way round the problem is to configure it as you have on each device.
There is one other possibility to have different DNS and that is to use Plusnet Safeguard (configurable by logging into the member centre) but all that does is to change the automatic settings to some of BT's DNS that are their sort of equivalent to OpenDNS. This doesn't deal with any performance aspects of the DNS themselves of course.  But the last time I saw someone running some tests on Plusnet's DNS, they were as fast as a number of others which had been my previous experience but however I did find the odd failed lookup for what ever reason.

I assume its to force you to go through the "Filtered" DNS which will redirect you if you try to access any site on the black list.

Re: Plusnet Hub One

Plusnet's normal DNS is not filtered (except as with all ISPs where they are required by law to block sites with child pornography!)
This thread is in danger of going off-topic.

Re: Plusnet Hub One

Thanks for the replies.
I switched to using the Google DNS servers after the incident reported at http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/sep/10/plusnet-users-suffer-outages-dns-problems The occasional DNS lookup failure I had been experiencing went away using google.
It's surprising given the problems that Plusnet have had with their DNS servers that they appear to be trying to force customers to use them.
The choice of words in the router help could be better too: "You can't change it yourself as it is set by the Network" - maybe, but I don't see why they cannot be overridden by the customer. Guess I should be buying my own router.

Instead of saying "You can't change it yourself as it is set by the Network" it ought to say

This router is locked, so you can't use it on a different ISP - tough luck.

Re: Plusnet Hub One

I don't believe it is locked Jeremy, the primary and secondary DNS are just set automatically by the ISP so klerm's comment is more accurate.

Re: Plusnet Hub One

Received the One Hub yesterday and I am confused about the unit lights.  Seems to me that there is only one light but the set up guide refers to the "broadband and wireless" lights.  I don't see those. What is the panel below the large blue light for? It came with film protection as if it were a screen but I see nothing.
I cannot see how to change the SSID to not broadcast.  My previous router allowed this.
Lastly - can i connect a WD Passport external hard drive to the USB port and see that drive on all networked PCs?
Thank You,
JH

There are a few indicators there but they will only light up if particular conditions are met.

Not 100% sure as I haven't access to a unit at the moment, but I don't think this is possible. IMO, there's little merit in hiding it though

Yes, I believe so, however I've no experience of doing this so can't comment  on what the performance is like.
