I'm still getting calls about this. Apart from the symptom mentioned in the title, you may have any of the following symptoms:
- Documents and spreadsheets appear unreadable because they open with the wrong program.
- You get messages about activating a version of Office you didn't have in the first place.
- Updates appear to install repeatedly.

I think Microsoft have now fixed the updates being repeatedly offered and installed despite already being installed.

Interesting; I hid them and they're now not showing as hidden. And a recheck doesn't bring them up, though they're installed (4 times) according to the history.

I have now seen three computers, all running the bundled Starter edition of Microsoft Office 2010 on Windows 7, that were messed-up by last week's update. If you did not know how to get out of the mess you might have been lead to buy a full copy of Office. Accidentally-on-purpose Microsoft?
System Restore, if available, is the easiest way out of the mess. The bad updates no longer re-install.
