Fixing a scratch on an lcd screen?

Anybody got any good ways of fixing a scratch on the screen?
I have tried the rubber (or eraser) on the screen but that didn't do anything.
(It is a nice 22" monitor I got of freecycle, free since it has a scratch on it, like a ring scratch)

Re: Fixing a scratch on an lcd screen?

Never tried it or head of anyone doing it but with many surfaces the answer is to polish them - rub polish on and then buff it off with a machine. Admittedly it would be a bit weird on a computer monitor lol

Re: Fixing a scratch on an lcd screen?

Polishing would probably work if it was some sort of screen coating that was scratched. Remove the coating remove the scratch.
But if the glass is scratched.........................

Brasso or T-Cut would be something I'd try if it was really annoying you but you might get some "bloom" on the plastic/glass depending what it was made out of.
Whatever you try, don't push too hard or you'll damage the LCD matrix behind.

by scrath do you mean it looks like someone passed by the front with something sharp in a single fine line ?
or do you mean someone has dug something through the screen and you can see a solid pixel line when its powered ?>
if the former some clear nail polish (when its turned off) and lying with the screen flat (so it wont run) should fix the problem (obviously make sure to clean the area properly first and let it dry fully first) a fine bead line applied with some thin cotton thread should fix the scratch making it invisible once the system is powered (don't use the polish applicator brush unlike plaster you don't want this surface gash filled proud to sand back smooth) its fiddly and if it goes wrong it will look even worse than before you started /
depends on the screen though it might be cheap enough to just buy a replacement off one of those Chinese sites  Roll_eyes

Be careful what you use on the screen.
We had a cleaner who decided to clean all 15 monitors in the office.
We don't know what she used but most screens developed a bathroom window effect and had to be replaced Roll_eyes

Re: Fixing a scratch on an lcd screen?

I normally just clean with screen cleaner, the rubbing marks on there are from the rubber (not usually as pronounced, from a distance I can just see a 1cm scratch)

Re: Fixing a scratch on an lcd screen?

As I said I tried the rubber one, will try the 2nd one. However it may get removed the first time I clean it.
