I have been playing with a 1Gbps Lightning port to Ethernet converter. On a 500/70 Internet connection I note that on repeated tests, download tops out around165- 230 Mbps and upload at 70Mbps, I have got the same results on two Ipads and an Iphone,
I have read that Lightning ports top out at the same speed as USB2, that is, 480Mbps. I note that this is about twice the download speed that I am getting.
So my questions:
1. Assuming that this is a simplex data connection, that is, both directions can't be active at the same time: Does the lightning port split the available bandwidth to say 240 Mbps up and 240Mbps down regardless of whether the other direction needs the bandwidth?
2. Is the same true with USB2?
3. Is the 1GBps data converter rubbish in that although the Ethernet port synchronises at 1Gbps, it simply can't handle the data.
4. Ditto the Apple Lightning port?

A quick look at the internet confirms the 220 - 230 Mbps is about the best speeds others experienced with Apple USB2 ports.
Are USB 3 ports available ?
