Re: Adobe Reader and Windows 7

@Champnet  Linux WAS an adventure for me,   but I started early, before Win 7 ceased to be supported...  ... When that happened, I was ready to DUMP WINDOWS. with all its update problems, and having to wait for it to configure and set up again afterwards... and have never been happier ! ! ..

I still use Win 7 on a Virtual Machine on Linux Mint...

I also run 99% of my old windows softwares on linux ... only one does not work... hence having the virtual machine set up, so i can still read and edit old MSPUB 98 documents, if needed.

Re: Adobe Reader and Windows 7

@Baldrick1

The reason I dont go to Win 10 or Win 11 is I would need to replace my pc as well as buy the new software. The hardware isn't good enough for Win 10, so I assume Win 11 is also out. I cannot afford to replace both.at the moment and for the forseeable future.

It's so sad to imagine the amount of redundant hardware needlessly dumped into landfill. A trend perpetulated by the relentless need for technological advancement..................

It does make me sad when the simple and FREE installation of Linux, a web web browser anf Libre Office is all that is required by a large proportion of users.

As long as replacement ink cartridges cost more than a new printer with ink, consumers can be forgiven for dumping the old printer (mainly plastic nowadays) and buying a new one rather than just buying ink when they run out.

Re: Adobe Reader and Windows 7

@Jonpe    Perhaps those who do that are just too lazy to do research and find cheaper compatibles. I have never used original replacement cartridges since I started using a printer. So I must have saved hundreds of pounds on that.. .and a few more pounds on NOT buying a new printer when the old one runs out of ink...

But, there again....i`m a yoksherman.... !  Cheesy  and proud of it ! Smiley

Re: Adobe Reader and Windows 7

I did buy 'compatible' ink cartridges from Tesco for my old printer and although it kept warning me that the print quality wouldn't be as good etc., I didn't notice any difference.  However, I understand printer manufacturers are getting wise to the use of 'unauthorised' ink and some printers now won't work unless you use the branded product(s).

Agreed @Jonpe , which is why after many years of satisfactory use I gave up with HP DeskJets and bought a Brother Laser printer a year or two ago.

Re: Adobe Reader and Windows 7

@Jonpe  My last two printers...  EPSON (upgraded for better photo quality output) were delivered with the standard set of low capacity "set up" cartridges  (set of 6 ) .

On starting the printer(s) there is a   notice which is very misleading...

"A new Firmware is available.

Select "Dismiss" to start update.

Upgrading Firrmware may improve

functions and solve certain problems"

  [  No later ]        [  Dismiss ]

using the word "Dismiss" in this situation is  deliberately misleading and designed to trick the unwary into initiating the Firmware update, which triggers some part of the innard to reject compatible cartridges.

Also the "ambiguous"   MAY improve functions... and solve "certain problems"....

So .. doing the upgrade MAY improve functions ... but not guaranteed.. and no specific funct ions are mentioned.

Same with  "solving certain problems".. misleading the reader that  the machine already has "certain (unmentioned) problems... even before you start to use it...

By selecting No Later... whenever i have to change a cartridge it alwasy states "you have not installed genuine cartridges"..

(oooooh.. you naughty person, you ! ! )     Shocked         .. and the print quality is not guaranteed... do you want to continue... .. and you do get the chance to "Use this ink"  option... ! !  ..

Print quality is excellent... and I have not had to deal with  "certain problems" that have not been solved ! ! !

When researching for the lowest priced compatibles... I always make sure the vendor states  "guaranteed to work in your printer  ".. so that if they don`t  they will refund.
