Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Strat & Matt,
Thank you for the SMO definition.  The speeds were good until yesterday.  They dropped yesterday am.  Does that meen that I power off my router for 1 hour and restart to see if there is any change ion speeds?  If I do this will it be counted as disconnection?
Regards,
Chandu.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Half an hour should be fine (though I'd leave it until around lunchtime as sync speeds tend to be better then), and as long as you disconnect via the router's interface before powering off it won't be seen as a forced disconnect. We recommend doing this every time you power the router off for that reason, to be honest.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hello Matt,
Thank you for the advice.  I have Netgear DG834GT modem/router.  I will do just that tomorrow lunch time. It is bit late today.  Having said that, my up/down speeds have improved fractionally today.  Can you please check if I have had disconnection today prior to 9.00 am, please?  This is just to put my mind at rest.  I am still waiting for CSC to respond to my ticket update.
I now have wireless adapter (USB) to use if it is necessary to hook my router on to the master socket.  Though I may need some help in setting up the wireless adapter on my Win XP (SP3) machine which is currently connected via ethernet cable to the router on extesion socket.  Is there any plusnet help website?
Many regards,
Chandu.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi chandu,
No disconnects showing on our logs here since 8:45 yesterday morning, so it's looking good on that score. I'll see if I can get your ticket a nudge today as well.
The wireless adapter should be fine, but check the instructions on the box - in some cases it's really important *not* to plug the usb stick in until you've already run the setup file on the CD. Always worth checking to see if this is the case.
Hope that helps,
chandu

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Matt,
Thank you for your help.  CSC (Name withheld) phoned me this luchtime as I was going through resetting the Router as suggested yesterday and he has suggested that there is no need to plug the router into the test socket and hence I can carry on with my current connection to extension socket.  So, no need for USB Wireless Adapter installation.
Yes, after resetting the router, the speeds have picked up.  Much better than what I had for last few days.
Thank you Matt.  Well done for you and whole of CSC Team.  Great service  Smiley
Many regards,
Chandu.

Re: What's going on with PN?

@Matt,
Sorry to bring this up again.  I have been keeping an eye on my connections lately.  It appears that I do get disconnection/s after between 48 and 120 hours ( according my router Status).
I do now have USB Wireless adapter ready and driver installed on my desktop.  I do appeciate that using wireless would probably give lower speeds.  Any suggestions?
I have already updated my ticket accordingly.
Many regards,
Chandu.

Hi Chandu,
The logs at this side seem to tally with that, I'll make sure our faults team are aware and get back to you ASAP.

Re: What's going on with PN?

HI adam,
After Openreach engineer's visit on Easter Sunday (passing loop test and test from the fixed BT installed extension) I am told by the fault team that the fault appears to have been sorted.  It is not.  Today @17.00 hours I had 2 disconnections within the space of 30 minutes, while I was downloading my mail and surfing.  It appears that there are some gremlins in the exchange equipement/s.  Can anyone at PN get BT to get their finger out and look at the exchange's equipement/s, please?
Frequent disconnections will prompt DLM to automatically lower my speeds  Am I right?
Will appreciate your help.  Currently the line has been stable for last 6 hrs and 42 mins.
Many regards,
Chandu.

Sorry to say this Matt, but the ticket hasn't been updated yet.  The time now is 18:05.
Something is adrift here.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Chandu, what are you seeing as evidence of the disconnections? I say this as our connection logs show uptime in excess of one day and 17 hours now.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Adam,
Thanks for your response.
Yes, the stability has been there for last 45 hours now.  But had 2 disconnections on Tuesday @ approx. 5.00pm within 30 minutes.  That's what I was on about.
However, had a call from the fault team (Agent's name withheld but see the ticket) and we have now decided to move the router to the BT test socket. (My extentsion line is now disconnected and am worried about extension wires falling off the removed plate).  If there is/are disconnection/s it would then point to either the Netgear DG834GT Router or the line itself.  I shall be keeping an eye on the stability from the Test socket.
Just a question - how long will the router have to be in the test socket?
Many regards,
Chandu.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi chandu,
re the test socket we'd recommend leaving it connected there for 72 hours. Not much point at present as a few drops have happened since.
Please don't think that a couple of drops during any given day is an issue, obviously a prolonged issue where the connection drops frequently is a problem but occasional disconnections can and will happen.
At present I can see that a few drops have happened although not an alarming amount. You have been online for about 36 hours so I'm going to advise leaving the router where it is for now and lets see if that 36 makes it to 72 hours....

Re: What's going on with PN?

Thanks Adam. Currently solidly on for over 41 hours.  So let's wait and see.
Thanks again.
