Yes you quite right, it will be complex and it is expensive. plusnet is a budget company and with complete failure of being able to answer phone, I suppose something as complex as a family filter will be completely beyond them.
plusnet we'll do you proud as long as it's cheap and not to complex Crazy

@Flexo1966   Try and get your head around the size of the problem!   I think that we all agree that switching the Filter On and Off is trivial, but what is hard is defining (Let alone agreeing) what it is that the filter will inhibit.

Just take these few criteria as an example.
1]  What is acceptable to one group may be totally unacceptable to another based on Culture; Religion; Upbringing.
2]  What content is acceptable to particular age groups?
3]  Is political viewpoint a valid Filter?
4]  Should a whole site be banned because 1 page fails.?
5]  Who makes the decisions?  And how do we monitor those decisions?

Now look at the number of Web sites (Millions) and the speed with which they can be monitored  created / shut down.
It's just not a simple task at all regardless of budget.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread yet but we *are* working on a solution for filtering, it will be opt-in/out so those that don't want it will not have to have it. It's something we've mentioned previously and we'll give more details as we have them.

Well it worked very well at Talktalk. Still they are not a budget company and have managed to complete a complex task.
Just of the cuff I tried calling plusnet today and had to wait 37 minutes for someone to answer, absolutely stunning customer support.
Still it's not plusnets fault is it, it's BTOR Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

The people that answer the phones aren't the same people that develop products/services.
Not sure what you mean about Mac O/S, what isn't supported by it? The router and ADSL certainly work with them.

...and that is AFTER setting it all up - CRM interface / choice selection (all, something or nothing - I am sure you'd not be happy with the same filters for a 16 year old being applied to a 5 year old?) / usage monitoring / access blocking according to CRM choice (censorship) / monitoring / review / maintenance...
ISP implemented controls restrict the WHOLE HOUSEHOLD there is no layering of the restrictions to this or that user or device, which is why such requirements should be implemented within the home.  What is acceptable to one household will not be acceptable to another.  Where do you draw the boundaries?  There are more areas of concern that the usual focus of porn, which within itself is hard to define.  I would be much more concerned about cult, drugs and ideology sites which brainwash our society.
There are tools out there to do this within the home to individual's requirements, however it is not wholly effective, it is not fool proof and it is not simple no matter how much Government brain washing leads you to believe it is.  If you want a simple answer, turn the internet off when access cannot be supervised.

At what cost?  Both in terms of £s to the operation and consequentially the whole user base AND priorities to more beneficial things being done by the development team - new order system - new billing system - new portal - IP v6 - all of which have far wider benefits to all.
Implementing this is a major change to the whole infrastructure - is is really such a high priority given the other things required of limited resources?  New ordering system has slipped 12 months, due to BTOR system failures, it's delayed availability has day on day impact on service, customer satisfaction and call volumes.  If there is spare resource then ought it rather be devoted to shortening the availability delay?

PlusNET assist - yup as you say everything else works with Macs.  They way this has been portrayed one would think that NOTHING around here works with Macs.  One needs some rational perspectives - Macs are not what the majority of users use.

In many cases it is true and no matter how much you rile against it, it remains true.  You yourself admitted that the CAUSE of your issues were down to BTOR.  Have you not yet comprehended that the repeat of your BTOR caused experience across the piece is giving PlusNET and all ISPs massive unnecessary support call volumes, especially through the peak holiday season?
What are you seeking to do here?  Contribute to the wealth of knowledge and understanding or bang on your drum to the annoyance of all, until someone opens a door and says "OK you can go outside and can you make a noise somewhere else please"?

Mac users are really lucky that Plusnet Assist won't work on them - if it did they might be tempted to use it!

There's another, albeit small issue, which affected me this morning.
Being away from home I tethered my mobile (connected to EE) to my laptop to find that many websites were unavailable getting a message that 'adult content is blocked Roll_eyes
I had removed the adult block as soon as they installed it some time ago. The MyEE app and website indicated that the Adult content lock was off but was still being blocked. My first call to EE didn't get it resolved but the second call did.
But what if it happened the other way round? Content filter appears to be on when, in fact, it has been turned off?
