The DLink DSL-2640B

What a complete waste of time this has turned out to be. OK so I got a better connection speed but the wireless on it is useless. 20% standing right next to it... walk out the room and it's gone. Back onto the 3Com for now. Looks like the DLink will be going on Ebay.

What I forgot to add is this is the free one PlusNet provided me.

Re: The DLink DSL-2640B

seems a perfectly good wireless router to me, that Dlink  - I'm getting 80 to 85 % signal strength (connection speed 24mb/s from router to pc), through a brick wall with a DECT phone hub right beside the router

Re: The DLink DSL-2640B

It's mine as long as I stay in my contract for 12 months or pay the full price of it if I leave.
It may be a good router but this one certainly has a problem if that's the case. The signal was so bad my phone, netbook, laptop couldn't connect unless in the same room yet my 5+ year old 3com gets me a signal upstairs and like barky it's also sat next to a DECT phone.

Re: The DLink DSL-2640B

I have had 2 D link routers now from Plusnet and neither of them will  connect.  Have followed the excellently straightforward instructions too.
So continuing to use old Belkin already have - having spent hours messing about with the D Links have given up on changing over!

Re: The DLink DSL-2640B

I was sent DLink DSL-2640B when I joined 4 months ago. So far has comfortably outperformed Orange "Livebox" ,Buffalo and Belkin routers I had before.Getting good or excellent signals throughout the house,in the garage and in the garden with WPA-PSK encryption enabled .Have used 4 different PCI or USB cards. Suggest you may have faulty routers?Huh

Re: The DLink DSL-2640B

Cheers Dave... I'll raise a ticket and see if Plusnet can send me another one.

Re: The DLink DSL-2640B

Sorry if you have already tried this but have you tried unticking the autoscan and change the channel to say 2? The reason i say this is my laptop doesnt connect when the autoscan is enabled.

Re: The DLink DSL-2640B

Hi yep.. I originally set it up to use the same channel that my old router uses without any problems. I've tried it with both settings and even standing next to it you only get about a 25% signal strength. I've raised a ticket now so hopefully I'll get sent a replacement.

A new router is on it's way out to me! Excellent service only logged the ticket today.

Even you were the owner, it's morally unsound to offer damaged goods for sale, presumably as "hardly used".

Re: The DLink DSL-2640B

Hi
I also received one of these yesterday, having agreed to stay for another year (not a difficult choice).  I also found the Plusnet instructions fairly easy to follow, but initially had a couple of problems, which seem to have sorted themselves out.  As far as I can tell, my sync speed seems higher than with my old Belkin  Smiley.    I'm not convinced about the signal strength, but it doesn't seem very different according to the bars on the connection status.
So far so good  Wink
