Quite downgrading of Plusnet

Just read this http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2015/09/isp-plusnet-scraps-free-uk-calls-from-broadband-and-pho...
Find this quite insulting and disappointing. Plusnet is supposed to be an ISP that stands out from the rest, but now it seems that it wants to blend in with the main ISP's - something that I don't want to be part of.
No more 24/7 call centres, slower upload speeds, extremely LONG call wait times and more network issues.
Plusnet was once an ISP that was loyal, local and convenient. Plusnet would work around you and could ring up whenever. I personally think that, that loyal and local service is no more. Quite disappointing really.
A shame that there's no more genuine down to earth ISPs anymore and thought Plusnet would remain the same. Especially because the local and loyal service is their iconic identity
Don't know what to do when my contract is up whether to stay or find another ISP who can provide a loyal service.  Undecided

Re: Quite downgrading of Plusnet

Not exactly technical leadership at the top, which probably explains the change in service style from "excellence" to "good enough" supported by marketing.
CEO Plusnet - BT, Dixons Stores, Builder george Wimpey
CEO BT Ex Proctor and Gamble
CEO OpenReach - HSBC management during Bank crash and also Dixons
CEO Ofcom - Economist previously responsible for Govt spending cuts.
Don't even look at the salaries they are paid! It is "PM" multiples.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Quite downgrading of Plusnet

As I've commented before, the whole industry is lead by people who know nothing about engineering.  The last Ofcom appointment was totally bonkers ... or was it just politically correct?

Re: Quite downgrading of Plusnet

And it's normal to have technical experts or engineers running subsidiary's of FTSE 100 companies or major regulatory bodies?
I think if you look at the hierarchies, you will find many technical experts and specialists who have significant experience in the telecom sector.

Re: Quite downgrading of Plusnet

That might be the reason why so many of them are failing to deliver a quaily service.  I think most would complain if the captain of their holiday cruise ship was a marketer or accountant and knew nothing about seamenship.  Such is the same with most of the leaders in telecoms - they know about selling and costs, but darned all about actual service delivery.  What is worse they make decisions on engineering matters for which they are not qualified.  The ftse 100 Is plagued by it.  Such was the reason I finally left IT, though a senior Technical Expert (using your labelling) sound engineering necessities (like systems testing) were being ignored / omitted by non-engineering decision makers because such did not fit their budget, timeline or could be proved would deliver benefit.  Needless to say on delivery things went wrong.
Defending this is not worthy of you Andy.

Re: Quite downgrading of Plusnet

I'm not defending them - you look at most FTSE 100 or S&P 500 companies. How many of them are run by successful business leaders rather than technical experts?

Re: Quite downgrading of Plusnet

Plusnet used to be a very generous ISP and always went the extra mile  Smiley
However it looks like management has changed over time and sticking to the absolute bare minimum and raising prices.
Sorry - but that is what it feels like to me in my opinion.
ZEN & AAISP I haven't looked at. But could be a possibility.

Re: Quite downgrading of Plusnet

PN bean counters have ruined a once GOOD ISP by giving away FREE stuff , and getting the money back by CUTS to services Sad  the latest down grade like Talktalk 40/2 is totally ridiculous , just to save money and complaints Sad

Re: Quite downgrading of Plusnet

But 40/2 is doing anything but reducing complaints.
I'm pretty sure that offering 40/10, even at a small premium, would be the way to reduce complaints.

Re: Quite downgrading of Plusnet

Hello, With respect, have you seen the current TV advert for PLUSNET?. The opening line says words to the effect that all other ISP's have terrible customer service!!!!!!!!. I have only been a customer of PLUSNET for a few months, I fell out with TALKTALK and on the strength of the TV adverts, came to PLUSNET. In those few months I am disgusted at the complete degradation of customer services at PLUSNET. It really is a disgusting situation, ALL privatised utilities have one thing in common, they worship the God "Profit" at the express exclusion of customer satisfaction.
Thank you,
regards,
TheFlyingMouse.

Re: Quite downgrading of Plusnet

Completely agree with you TheFlyingMouse.
Adverts seem very misleading and I wonder where the statistics come from.
