Re: Plusnet Total useless

I have just logged on to my router and gone to sytem log and activated the tick box to log information abouts errors, in the log it listed this which is labled as Emergency under the heading Severity.
  Jan 13 14:15:08  syslog  emerg    BCM96345 started: BusyBox v1.00 (2005.04.12-18:11+0000)

Havent got a clue what it means though but hope it may be helpful to you.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

@Egz0001
At the risk of butting in - but I'm just curious - is the noise on your phone line only present when you use the extension cable or is it present if you plug your phone into the test socket at the master?
If it's still noisy when you plug into the master socket then you should probably phone BT (or whoever you pay line rental to) and report a voice fault as the noise won't be helping your broadband (you need to report a noisy line as a voice fault and not mention broadband when you do!!).
If the noise is only there with the extension plugged in then it may be worthwhile buying a new cable and seeing if things improve.
I'll let James guide you though as this is just my 2p worth!!!

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Thanks for the input mate the more heads the better.
I only get noise from the extension cable and the extension is only used for the phone, the router is connected to the master socket, unless its connected to the engineers test socket for purpose of tests.
I will be doing away with the extension cable ASAP when i get a phone that is wireless and will only be using the master socket with the router and the phone both connected through the filter.
I had the same issues ive been having with O2 than ive got with plusnet but the problem was i didnt have a static ip at the time with O2 once i got the static ip i could online game even with the crackly line.
I will alwys try to rule stuff out if poss and playing on line from the Enginners test socket didnt work either. Im gettin the same speed results and the same lag form test socket or not.
Thanks for the help though as any advice would be helpful, even if i had tried it its worth saying.

My speeds are 3.3 Meg Down  /  230 Kbps Up  /  Pings of 90  (I did 3 tests and this is the average)

Are those speed tests or sync speeds?
Could you possibly post up your actual sync speeds from your router, and also include the attenuation/SNR Margin and power if you have them.
Could you also, from a Command Prompt, run:  "tracert www.plus.net"; and post back exactly what it returns.
Are the "pings" that you report above from on the PS3?
Cheers
B.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Don't rely on speedtest.net! Smiley
I'm fairly certain that the ping response times it gives are wildly inaccurate.
Rely on ping replies using a command prompt on your computer.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Ive used that site for every ISP ive had and has alwys been a good guide.
Im sure if i tried enough sites im bound to find a good result somewhere, the reality is it isnt a good connection, if i believed my router stats then my connection is great shame it wont work at all now.
Guess its time i paid you some more money by phoning up again to ask whats the problem this time.
Im on my Virgin 10 meg connection at the moment, its a good job i have 2 connections or you wouldnt be able to read this.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

I thought that you said on the phone that your connection wasn't dropping?
How often does this happen?  Is there any chance of trying a different router on your line to eliminate hardware failure?

Re: Plusnet Total useless

My connection has only just droped , it hasnt done it before, im back on the plusnet connection now. I was told it was because interleaving was beeing taken off and it causes an intermittent connection, oh the fun ill have trying to play online with that type of connection, dare i say it will be worse than last night.
Ive just had a conversation with one of your tech guys who told me that they do not offer support regarding an issue i have about an error message that keeps poping up due to the D link router supplied by you and was told that he cannot help as you do not offer support for game consoles although the problem lies with the router..
One of the reasons i signed up cos i was told on the phone that you did support PS3 consoles.
Do these posts ever stay still. and dont plusnet get tired of moving them all the time.
So far its the second day ive been paying for my connection that i havent been able to use it for what its for.
To save the hasstle wouldnt it be easier if i just gave you money every month , forget about the connection , what connection, suppose it may be good for e mail, but wouldnt know as id like to use mine for online gaming.
Another day spent on phones or forums and im gettin rid, thats 2 days wasted already, the interleaving should be off tomorrow and im going to try my game out during the day which i never do and if it dont work then im afraid you aint gettin paid and im switching straight away..
Im so glad i paid by credit card lots of extra protection against people who try to take money that they are not entitled too, suppose i should phone them up to get the forms sent through as im sure this is going to be messy.
How stupid was i thinking that an isp offering online gaming would actually allow you to online game.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

No i have had sky 8 meg and O2 8 meg, both where asdl2+ or annex m connection and worked ok, O2 was best with static ip. I also have a Virgin cable connection too.
I know the problem isnt down to my line as ive had it tested and it works great,.
Im hoping the problem is down to interleaving mostly, but it could also be down to the fact that they never gave me a static IP as promised or the plusnet firwall blocking my PS3 ports.
Wouldnt waste any time phoning them about any problems though as the guys from here seem to be better clued up.
Ive spoken to many guys on the phone who really have no clue and just try to pass the book. Do what i did if you have a problem try to fix it yourself, although James has been of help.
Lets hope my fix will work and james taking off interleaving or im back to square 1 again.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

I *think* that the other 2 would have been unbundled lines so when you have moved to PN your line will go through a 10 day training period which might explain some of your issues - as mention by Pierre on your other thread

Re: Plusnet Total useless

when i phoned them up they said it was only for 3 days and that was what interleaving was for, When checking my speeds they have alwys been very stable although very low and ive had only 1 disconetion. So it shouldnt make any difference now as im getting interleaving taken off.
My D link DSL-2640B router came from plusnet, I used to have a speedtouch 585 on O2 and found it to be quite good and was expecting one of those as i was told thats what i was getting.
When the D link arrived i was supprised but as D link do a model that is specifically for online gaming(Different model) i though way hey how cool , they must know what they are doing.
The D link has QOS on it where the Speedtouch 585 didnt, I think the speedtouch with the 2 ariels does though.

id imaging that this router is a good one if you know what yu are doing with it, But alas i have no clue as to how to set up the QOS setting.Any help would be nice.

Did you know that you can get a static IP by going here (Member Centre > Connection Settings > Control Your Broadband > Change IP Settings) and control the firewall (including turning it off) here (Member Centre > Connection Settings > Set My Broadband Firewall)?
Both just require a router restart after you've changed the settings - no need to phone PN to get it done!
