My password

I have just receilved two emails, supposedly from Plusnet. They have 'New Password for Forum' as the subject, and state:
This mail was sent because the 'forgot password' function has been applied to your account. To set a new password click the following link:
Are they genuine? It has been several weeks since I last posted to the forum, and at no time have I forgotten my password. In fact, I have just used my exisitng password to log in to send this.
Please would someone clarify what all this is about?
Many thanks.
Keith

Re: My password

It means somebody has used the forgotten password link on the home page having entered your forum user name. It probably means their username is similar to yours and they've forgotten what they have actually used (deekayw might be a candidate).

Oldjim
I can view the full header in Thunderbird, but I cant find how to copy and paste it into a posting to you.
Sorry to be so dim!
If you can please tell me how to do it, I'll post it in the morning.

Re: My password

Hello jelv. thanks for your reply.
Actually, now that I have looked at the full header, a couple of the lines read:

Received  from [212.159.8.109] (helo=pih-relay08.plus.net)   by pih-inmx19.plus.net with esmtp (PlusNet MXCore v2.00) id 1O6U72-00025U-ET   for <me>
Received from [84.93.230.186] (helo=community03) by pih-relay08.plus.net with esmtp (Exim) id 1O6U72-0001Im-Bd for <me>; Mon, 26 Apr 2010 20:37:00 +0100
Most of the lines in the header refer to PlusNet
So your explanation may be correct.
Cheers

Re: My password

Yes, we can verify from our side of things that this seems to be genuine. I would change your password for now if you haven't already. As jelv said it may not be a cause for concern but do let us know if you see this happen again.
