Re: Migration Query

Hi Jim,
Hope all is well with you. You're on a 3000kbps profile at the moment so 2913kbps is perfectly normal for that.
What's making you believe that the connection is behaving in an odd or erratic manner?

Re: Migration Query

Hi Adam,
Look at the attached BT speed test I just done its says my profile is 2000k........not 3000k......
If I download something I can see the download stop and speed up erratically......
Also upload speed has not improved still 444 despite being uncapped........
Pings have gone up to 150 to 290ms......but there is no noise on the line as before.......

Re: Migration Query

I'll confer with James re your upstream and come back to you about that. Re the 2000 shown on the speedtester we've see inconsistencies with the data displayed on there before. There's no doubt that you are actually on a 3mb profile now so please ignore the profile displayed on there.

Re: Migration Query

I'll have a chat with BT regarding your upstream.
Not sure what will have caused the fluctuations in speed, but with a line your length, it can happen.

Re: Migration Query

Ta James,
Well last time download was this erractic (but not as bad as before) (from 1st April) was a high resistance fault that BT had to change the 60m cable (in the end).
I am just going to try re-booting the router and see what happens........
BTW length of line has nothing to do with what I am seeing......

Re: Migration Query

Understood.
Didn't manage to get through to BT, but looking at potentially raising a fresh fault on your line (I assure you I am cringing as I type this).

Re: Migration Query

Jim,
Quick one.  Any idea what mode you router is connecting in?  It's the g.dmt thing.

Re: Migration Query

Just re-booted the router, sync speeds still the same......made no difference to erratic download.........
I am seeing that the sync speeds are not quite matching what the BT speedtest says they are which can indicate a problem.........
Latest BT speed test attached with this post.......as you will see as if by magic my profile is now saying 3000k............

Re: Migration Query

Ok, download seems ok again now.........perhaps it was the amount of people watching the football and the tennis?
Still doesn't explain why my download and upload sync havent improved despite being connected for 166 hrs and having loads of SNR margin to play with......9db for down and 11db for up.......
I am convinced BT have capped me somehow.........

Re: Migration Query

Download speeds and ping back to normal still this morning........
BT somehow must be making my down SNR margin 9db as a target, or otherwise my sync speed would have increased by now, perhaps this is also why my upload is 444 as before my upload was around 750 ish......
I assume they (BT) think there is still some probs with the line and either them or the system has set the SNR margin as a result, with what I am seeing in general (apart from yesterday afternoon) is that my line should sync higher down and up and a 6db down SNR margin should be sufficient, the good ping times and getting no packet loss combined with interleaving support this.....
If 6db SNR causes a problem then I would be happy to go back to 9db...
At the moment I am not on a max rate adaptive service as I should be, either by design or system error.......
I feel I should at least get the service my line is capable of.......

Re: Migration Query

Hmm.
Might be able to restart the training period.  Not sure how easy it is to do on 21C, but I'll find out.
Going back to yesterday, are you able to force the mode on your router to an ADSL2 one? G.992.5  is for ADSL2+, however you'll probably need 992.3 which is for ADSL2.
Worth a go.
