Marketing card from Plusnet

A few days after we moved we received a card through the door for half price broadband and UK calls. It was addressed to "The Occupier". I'm intrigued to know how the mailing company got my address as a newly occupied property.

Some of these are just distributed to every property the postman delivered to though aren't they....

Not this one. It started "Welcome to your new home!".

We got a letter to our new address, also to "The Occupier".
The back said "We've written to you as Royal Mail have passed your details to us. If you'd rather not receive any more mailings from us, simply visit www.homemoversoptout.com/Plusnet and..."

Re: Marketing card from Plusnet

Royal mail may well be aware that the previous occupant has moved (if they set up a mail redirect), they'd also know you'd moved if you set up a mail redirect.
Utility companies are also likely to know whenever there's a change of occupant.  Your bank, the DVLA and many others will have been (or will need to be) informed if you change address. Most local authorities seem to sell the voters register and you need to opt out if you don't want your details on the list that they sell.

This was one of the first letters, and beat any of the new utilities. We hadn't even tried to set up re-direction inwards - though of course we have no control of any outbound redirection, and certainly hadn't got to informing any of our existing contacts of the new address.

Maybe this guy's big nose is a very appropriate part of the character:

There's nothing like that on mine.

Ditto. We had set up a redirection however. My suspicion is that it was from moving the BT phone.

Re: Marketing card from Plusnet

Cheers for bringing this to our attention.
As you can guess this campaign has been aimed at anyone moving home.

We've worked with the Royal Mail so you will have received yours Jelv and Wombat because of the redirect rather than any dealings with BT. However any existing customers should have been excluded from this so sorry, you shouldn't have been included.
I've had a chat with our marketing team who are working to eliminate any existing customers from the marketing data now.

Re: Marketing card from Plusnet

Do you need any codes off the card to help you identify why it was sent to me?

Re: Marketing card from Plusnet

Hi Jelv,
Can you DM me the address that the card was addressed to?
I'll take a look and try and find out how and why you got it!
