Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

When I do a speedtest check today it shows ip address as BT 217.39.22.196! I know Plusnet is owned by BT but shouldn't there be separate ip addresses for PN? Can I change the IP to PN? If so, how do I do that?

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

There are separate lists and that IP is clearly shown as now being owned by Plusnet: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools#whois|type=ipv4&&value=217.39.22.196 If you look at the detailed response the record was last updated in August.
You need to contact speedtest and ask them why they are using an out of date list.

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

I'm fairly certain I've already reported this to Speedtest/Maxmind on multiple occasions, let me check...
Edit: Can't find the original details so I've submitted another request to Maxmind containing a load of IP blocks for correction, including 217.39.16.0/20 which this particular IP falls into.

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

Hello all,
First post on this forum.
I suffered this issue for the first time tonight, whilst attempting to log in to the National Lottery site. I had already noticed for quite a while that Speedtest.net was showing BT as my ISP, which didn't bother me, but tonight my ISP was shown as Infonet with an IP of 146.199.97.224, and I was blocked from the Lottery website.
A Google search brought me to this thread and I have now disconnected and re-connected my router, which has brought me back to BT as my ISP and has allowed me to access the Lottery site.
As you have previously asked for a screen capture, one is attached to this reply, I hope.

Hi ceejbee53,
Welcome to the forum. Well done with that screen shot. I'm sure Bob has chased this one before, but when he picks this up, no doubt he have a go at it again.

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

I received a response from speedtest.net back in September telling me that they had fixed the problem and were now recognising the following IP blocks as belonging to Plusnet:
146.198.0.0/16
146.199.0.0/16
146.200.0.0/16
143.159.0.0/16

Doesn't look like that's the case, so I've just opened another ticket with them.
I've also sent The National Lottery another email, although I think I may have done this before and it hasn't gotten me very far Undecided

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

Hi
This is my first post, I'm having problems with some websites.
My problem specifically is BTs Business website where I need to regularly get on their managed services section to edit the website of my local community centre.
It refuses me access regularly because I'm trying to access it from another country!
I know I don't live in Sheffield, but I didn't realise Barnsley was a foreign country!
Why do I have to keep constantly turning my router off and resetting it before I can connect up?
Thanks for any assistance

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

Hi teza. Welcome to the forum. You should not have to turn your (modem/)router off to resolve this. Just log into it and look for the button that says Disconnect. Click that, wait about 30 seconds and then click Connect. This should give you a new IP address which hopefully won't be in any of the affected blocks. If you are unlucky you might have to do it again.
On the 2704n the button is on the Home page under Connection Status, on the TG582n, it's in the Internet box.
When you get such problems it'll always be best to post the IP Address you had as well as what you were trying to connect to, so that Bob from Plusnet can try and get it resolved.

The next time it happens, try and get a screengrab of the error and make a note of your IP address.
It would also be helpful to know which of BTB's managed services it applies to and what URL you use to access it?

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

Just noticed this thread was ongoing.
I had a similar issue last week with IP 146.198.76.158
Couldn't view iplayer, and it also affected Youtube content and the Ookla speedtester.
Bob has already picked up on this and looks like the Ookla issue has now been sorted.    I cant test iplayer/youtube now as I ditched the IP.
Only adding here for cross reference -  the original post which bob responded to was here

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

Ditto - this was post I made yesterday  http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,147725.0.html
Don't have the problem IP to hand this morning but it was a 146… starting one.
Youtube worked for me fine but not the National Lottery site  ( so I could check that the numbers I hadn't been able to play did not win ;D)
All resolved happily now..
