How do Plusnet now speed limit connections (IP Profile Related)

Bob Pullen has been his usual helpful self in posting this

The limiting born from the Member Centre profile is done by the LNS's/gateways on the 'old' L2TP network. As more and more people are moved across to the 'new' dedicated network, it becomes somewhat moot. I think that was one of the primary reasons for 'hiding' it.

However, and in view of other statements that Plusnet can now limit upload as well as download (coming from the 40/20 to 55/10 threads) can we have some clarity as to how it is handled on the new network.

Specifically does it still rely on the Delta Reports or is there a different mechanism so that a missed Delta Report doesn't cause the line to be more restricted than it should be

Of course the other question is whether the system on the new network does something entirely different in relation to how you manage traffic

Re: How do Plusnet now speed limit connections (IP Profile Related)

I was switched onto the new network about 4 months ago;Not answering your Q directly but ...my wife mistakenly unplugged our router about 36 hours ago;we reconnected at a slightly slower synch speed - running BTW checker our I.Profile has dropped by 0.15 Mbps to 16.52 and the PN profile has also dropped to a corresponding value of 16.5, so its picked the change up from somewhere?

Do I assume that this is either

Re: How do Plusnet now speed limit connections (IP Profile Related)

I'm puzzled as to how PN are limiting upload speed on the new network.

As I'm on a fixed IP I can't be sure, but I believe I'm still on the old network as my supposed 55/10 connection is giving me this:

Don't know about upload speeds, but the new network has finally fixed this.

I just downloaded a 220641181 byte file in 9 minutes 30 seconds, which when I added the TCP and IP header bytes, gave an IP rate of 3.181 Mbps, which is exactly my BT IP Profile. Plusnet current line speed is showing as 3 Mb which is about 4 days behind.

Re: How do Plusnet now speed limit connections (IP Profile Related)

Hi All,

I don’t know about commercially sensitive info but I can give you some interesting info

My IP profile used to be 68Mbs

My IP profile now is 48Mbs

I am on an 80/20 package but my profile reads like the new 52/10 package

I was also flicking though some of my logs yesterday and noticed something odd

I used to ping googles IP in 3 hops and now its 8 hops

Ping times before were around 8-12ms and now are around 37-45ms

I can’t even connect to the game Warthunder’s servers in Russia because I get around 45% packet loss and ping times in and around 400ms

I thinks PlusNet have a bigger problems than they anticipated and the transition over to the new network didn’t go as smoothly as they liked.
