Re: Dangerous default re rDNS

One further point - until relatively recently customers had web space as standard - guess what - that was username.plus.com
So for anyone who used it their usename was in open view

Plusnet have given their final written answer on this

Have we? I think a quick way of reducing some of the concern would be to get a message put on the Static IP addition page along the lines of 'If you choose a Static IP address, please be aware that the default rDNS (link to rDNS explanation) would be yourusername.plus.com - if you'd like this changing please raise a ticket to our support team'. Thoughts?
This thread has been flagged up internally, however please don't expect instant or even quick fixes to the actual DNS side of things (the text could be done pretty quickly) to this as I'm sure there is a load more backend stuff linked into the DNS system that I haven't thought of.

That's a very good starting place Chris, and in the first instance I think that's all most people would expect until chnages to the default settings are made which we appreciated would take a bit longer. I think your response is the sort of answer people were expecting some time ago.

Slap on the wrist for my "bump" accepted, but it does seem to have had the desired effect!  Cheesy

If we were able to provide options for rDNS or handle this differently how would people like to see that done?

>> Ticket is raised requesting static IP
<< Reply is given asking what flavour of reverse dns is desired, with options explained
>> Reply is sent with rDNS choice
<< Static IP and rDNS are applied at the same time.
It's not really rocket science is it?

Re: Dangerous default re rDNS

Setting up and paying for a static IP is currently an automated process though. Click the button, account charged, IP set up. Moving to a manual process probably wouldn't be attractive to PN, so using a different (anonymous) default rDNS setting would be better, with the manual process you suggest for those that want to depart from the default (once the default has been set up).

I see this has gone rather quiet! Has a Task ID been allocated to resolve these problems?

It's currently set to roll in the release we've got due on June 18th, I'll keep chasing it though.
