Cold call from PN

I had a. cold call from PN. To clear security I gave my user name and first 3 characters of my password. It now occurs to me to wonder if it was a genuine PN call. They offered to reduce my fee to £17.99 pm if I took a 2 yr contract (I declined).
Was it a genuine call?
