Re: Automatic hardware setup and replacement routers

I disagree that this is essential, I think it's more important that the serial numbers of old serial numbers are made de-active. It was also more of a rhetorical question.

It isn't a "if you like" it is essential given the number of customers either getting a replacement router of moving to fibre and then possibly giving their router away
Note that others do it differently
For example Talk Talk set it up according to the telephone line without looking at the router details

Except - they aren't as far as I can tell from your reply

Re: Automatic hardware setup and replacement routers

I'd be happy to see a list of the router numbers with a button beside each to remove it from the account.

This can be turned on and off through https://portal.plus.net/automatic_hardware_setup/index.php

No 'Automatic Hardware Setup' icon is even showing on my 'Member Centre - Connection Settings' controls, and I'm happy for it to remain like that.
Possibly that's either because I've progressed over the years from an early 'legacy' account to my present 'Unlimited' (and thus retained all the old 'extras' such as inclusive VoIP, but perhaps avoided having the TR069 option added), or maybe it's down to the fact that I've never received a router from PlusNet (they didn't provide them when I joined, but I prefer to choose/use my own - now on my third DrayTek).

For comparison purposes
I have not gone through any legacy account or migrated from a PN takeover etc
My account is showing as
Quote
Automatic Router Setup
Automatic Router Setup is currently enabled, so that when you plug in your new broadband hardware (supplied by us), it will automatically be setup to use your broadband account.
Want to handle setup yourself? Just click 'Disable Auto Setup' and set up your router manually.
Disable Auto Setup
How Automatic Hardware Setup works
This clever bit of automation is possible thanks to a system called TR69.

Attempting to turn it off doesn't even work for me, it always just says:

Oops! That didn't work.
It looks like a system error has stopped us from updating your selection. Sorry about that!
Please come back later and give it another go.

Maybe because I'm not currently using my 582n?

Likewise and likewise...

Oopsy daisy as some would say Tongue

Using a Huawei HG533
That said
I still have a few TG582n's & would it work on only one, as opposed to all, as their serial number would clearly be different ?Huh

I suspect that's the case - the Plusnet supplied (Modem/)Router with the listed serial number on the account (which we can't see!) has to be on line. I managed to turn mine off ages and ages ago, but I'm sure the 582n was on-line at the time.
It didn't alter CWMP-C or CWMP-S settings in the firmware, that had to be done manually.

Re: Automatic hardware setup and replacement routers

To confirm, coming from a legacy account the Automatic Hardware Setup only appears after requesting a PlusNet supplied router. It was never present in the portal area beforehand.
That's RPM to you!!

Re: Automatic hardware setup and replacement routers

Has anything been raised internally to allow a user to disassociate a router from their account without disabling TR069 for the router they are still using?

Re: Automatic hardware setup and replacement routers

I've been speaking with someone in products about this today to get a wider picture of things. It has been raised before, but it will need work from development. In honesty, it's unlikely that there will be resource to fix it Sad

In my ideal world, I'd have this. This is a good idea. I'll press for it, but in a blunt sense it's unlikely we'll get movement.

Re: Automatic hardware setup and replacement routers

How much would it take to create a ticket path for users to request that router with serial number xxx is removed from their account?
You could also add a link to that from the automatic hardware setup page along with a note "This will enable/disable automatic setup for all routers supplied to you by Plusnet and recorded against your account. Routers you no longer use can be removed from your account by raising a question here"

Re: Automatic hardware setup and replacement routers

Hmmmm,
I suppose that if a ticket was sent into "Broadband Setup" on the Member's Centre, it would reach the right hands. In fact, it would probably go through to the correct team if "Other" was selected. I'll ask about it for you.

Has anything been done to address this mess?
