£5 / 5GB too much

Hi
I know this has been raised before, but as my usage has gradually increased, I'm now more likely to hit the 10GB limit.
To have to pay nearly double, for half as much extra data seems exorbitant to say the least.  I read that 'research' has shown this is the most effective limit, but of course the reality is that it brings in more revenue to PN, even if the extra date isn't required or used.
As the basic rate in £.0.65p/GB, if the extra was charged at £2/2GB, it would still be at a premium rate, but fairer to those going just over the limit.
What's the chances?

Re: £5 / 5GB too much

Why not upgrade to unlimited for an extra £3.50 (if you contract for a year)?

Re: £5 / 5GB too much

£9.99 on a 12 month contract provided you have your landline with PlusNet, otherwise £2.50 extra  Sad

Re: £5 / 5GB too much

A minority of us pay more than £10 per month for our first 10GB.  It makes £5 per 5GB look like a bargain!

Re: £5 / 5GB too much

Compared with £10 for 30GB*, it looks like grossly overcharged  Roll_eyes or extortionate if you compare with £4 for unlimited  Shocked

* Fibre essentials vs ADSL essentials
Plusnet FTTC (Sep 2014), Essentials (Feb 2013); ADSL (Apr 2009); Customer since Jan 2004 (on 28kb dial-up)
Using a TP-Link Archer VR600 modem-router.

Re: £5 / 5GB too much

To me, complaining about paying £5 for an extra 5GB sounds like "I'm really well-off but I want to be even more so".  Spare a thought for the broadband poor.  I pay £12.99 per month for Plusnet Value 10GB.  Unlimited cost more and there is no fibre here.  I look forward to you picketing the Plusnet offices on behalf of myself or anyone else who lives in a Market 1 area.  .

Re: £5 / 5GB too much

I think £5 per 5GB is fair.  Don't forget you can cap your usage/spend so you don't spend over a set amount (this will reduce the speed).  Look at the likes of mobile broadband who will charge you a lot more for 5GB of usage.

Could you explain the significance of "a Market 1 area"?
Is Unlimited dearer there?
I'm paying £9.99 per month for Unlimited, though I'm not entirely sure whether I'm on some introductory offer;
I switched in April though I've been with PlusNet for 11 years.

Re: £5 / 5GB too much

There are 3 Market areas
http://www.plus.net/home-broadband/faqs/general/#low-cost
Depending if you are in a Mkt 1 area or Market 2/3 the costs vary as below
Plusnet Unlimited:
With a contract: If you live in a low cost area it costs £12.49 a month, if you live outside one of these areas it costs £19.49 a month
With no contract: If you live in a low cost area it costs £14.99 a month, if you live outside one of these areas it costs £21.99 a month

So Mkt 1 pay much more and in general for lower speeds. Angry
