Using TP-Link Archer BE550 BE9300 router

Hello,

I will soon be receiving my Plusnet equipment for new service. Unfortunately, I can only get part-fibre/hybrid service in my area so my download speeds will be less than 80mbps. That aside...

Q 1. Can I use the TP-Link Archer BE550 Tri-band BE9300 router INSTEAD of Plusnet Hub Two router (not use Hub Two at all)?

Q 2. If the answer to Q1 is NO, then, Can I use Hub Two as a bridge?

Q 3. Will my speeds be affected in either of this scenarios? In other words, is one of the scenario likely to perform better than the other?

Q1 - The answer is No. The BE550 does not have a built in modem

Q2 - Yes. You can switch the Hub 2 to Bridge mode, connect its DSL port to the master socket and then connect the BE550 WAN port to a LAN port on the Hub 2. You will need to set the BE550 WAN/Internet connection type to PPPoE and enter your PLusnet username & password.

Q3 - With part fibre (SoGEA) there is only the above option for using the BE550. If you had Full fibre (FTTP) then the BE550 could be connected directly to the ONT.

This device doe not have a built in modem so cannot be directly connected to a FTTC service. You therefore must use the Hub 2 with it. Configure the Hub 2 ib bridge mode.

You then need to set the Tp-Link input to PPPoE, the VLAN should be Off or left blank. Your username should be in the form of account username@plusdsl.net and the password, your account password.

You need a router with a DSL modem, in particular a VDSL modem, from the same brand as the BE550 these are available:

I have lot of devices with wifi6. Can anyone suggest a DSL/VDSL router with WIFI 6 (preferably WiFi 7 for futureproofing) that'll work directly without necessitating bridge mode?

Assuming that in the future full fibre will become available, I would simply use the Hub 2 as a bridge modem.

If it helps I have used a Hub two in bridge mode successfully with a TP-Link Archer AX53 on a part Fibre (SoGEA) connection with no issues, there is no reason to assume the Hub two in bridge mode will not work with any router only product.
