Streaming problems

Hi all, don’t know if this is correct section but wondering if someone could help with a small issue I have. Been with plus net a couple of weeks now with no problem, but last couple of days I’ve been unable to watch Netflix, i player, itv hub etc on smart tv where I was before. Tried restarting router, no problem with internet connection and everything else connected to WiFi- phone, iPad etc so not that so just wondered if anyone has any ideas why streaming services have suddenly stopped? Did speed test and was download 37.2 and upload 9.31 but always been around that so don’t think that’s the problem. Thanks

Re: Streaming problems

@Denise72 At a guess, for some reason the smart TV's connection to the internet has been lost or got worse.

Often there is some sort of connection status or test available on the TV.

If the TV is connected by WiFi I would try (even just to test) connecting the TV to the router by a cable and see if that helps.

If the TV supports Air Play try screen sharing from your iPad to the TV and try iPlayer etc. firstly on your iPad and then shared to the TV and see how you get on with that.

If you search "speed test" on your iPad, see what results that gives (possibly that is how you got your download 37.2 and upload 9.31).

The speeds you quote sould like you might have what Plusnet calls "Unlimited Fibre". If so that is what I would expect.

One other experiment would be to try making a WiFi hotspot on your phone and then connecting the smart TV to that.

This is quite a high user of data so I would only make it a short experiment but try the streaming services that way and see if they work better.

Re: Streaming problems

Thanks for reply, I did wonder about trying Ethernet cable but would mean rearranging room as big long room and telephone line at opposite end but looks like that’s what I’m doing today lol thanks again for your help.

Re: Streaming problems

@Denise72  If considering ethernet cabling take a look at flat ethernet cables. They can be run under carpets and along skirting boards.

Re: Streaming problems

Hi, thanks yes going to have to purchase a long one as where tv Ariel is I can’t move tv nearer to router and use original cable supplied by plus net. Any recommendations for Ethernet cable or will any do?

Re: Streaming problems

@Denise72 Personally I would look at Argos if 5m will be long enough.

"Belkin CAT5e 5m Network Ethernet Cable"

Unpack it carefully and see if it fixes the problem, if not Argos are generally really good about taking things back as long as they can sell them again.

If you are using another source or need a longer one, I've found Belkin cables generally OK.

Re: Streaming problems

Thanks for recommendation, just had a rough measure up and going to need about 7 metres I reckon.
