Setting up Smart Life devices with a new router

I have just bought a BT Hub 6, and using @Baldrick1 's excellent guide, managed to get it set up.

The issues came, when I tried to connect my various smart home devices:

Amazon devices went through the connection process perfectly fine.

My TLink smart plug has a reset button, so once I spotted that it was fine, but

I have a few devices that operate through the Smart Life App, none have reset buttons, and autoscan didn't find them. I tried the usual things (turning off 5GHz band etc) all to no avail. Eventually, I deleted them all, and tried to start again - still no luck. I managed to get them in the end, and thought it might help others to know how:

1. Unplug the device for at least 10 seconds

2. Plug it back in for at least 10 seconds.

3 Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. - the button will start to flash quickly.

4 Press and hold the power button for again - the button will start to flash more slowly.

5 On the Smart Life App click the + button on the top right (to add a device)

6 Select the type (e.g. "Socket (wifi)")

7 Follow the instructions for your router log in

8 Tap on where it says "EZ Mode" and select "AP Mode"

9 Now simply follow the instructions

The app will connect to the device (similar to how your first Echo Dot does)

And Bob, as they say, is your mother's brother.

I hope that's helpful

John

Re: Setting up Smart Life devices with a new router

@John_Hull

Glad to see you’ve got your Smarthub up and running.

For future reference another approach to connecting wireless devices is to log into the Smarthub advanced wireless settings and set the SSID and password the same as your old hub. Your wireless devices should then connect to the new hub without needing to reset any of the devices. Just remember that the wireless settings on the pull out flap no longer apply. The admin password is still valid.

I keep a spare hub and have set them both to my personalised SSID and password. This means that they can be swapped very simply and quickly should the need arise. My SSID is also instantly recognisable.

Hi Baldrick

Yes, I read that afterwards 😁

I may even go back and do it, when I have a bit of spare time.
