Since the heatwaves in the UK my Hub one router is constantly overheating, leading to an intermittant signal, do I need an new router?

@Suesue When you say the router is 'overheating leading to an intermittent signal', have you checked that it is definitely that causing the issue, and not some other issue?

I have checked all connections. I have turned the router off, to let it cool down, then when I put it back on, it works fine for a while, with perfect signal, but once it get's hot again, the signal keeps cutting in and out.

OK, if it is definitely overheating, call Customer Support and request a replacement.

... or use this opportunity to buy a better router (than a replacement Plusnet Hub Two), perhaps with "WiFi 6", SQM, VoIP, etc

The PlusNet hub does run at 5–10 Watts, and has only passive vents, so it does get quite warm. But if yours gets hot enough to upset its own WiFi, then it does sound like something is amiss.
When you talk to tech support, they may ask you to send in the router’s logs, and if you’re ready with anything else useful (like notes of wireless devices which suddenly show no WiFi signal strength) then that will speed your support call and enable a swift replacement of any faulty device.
