Router cables

With apologies, no doubt asked before.

New router has arrived, plusnet Hub Two. This will replace our existing Plusnet router which has 'plusnet72NW' on the back. We are moving to broadband only, no landline.

Can I use the existing power cable and broadband cable (grey) into the new router. They are threaded up through a unit, of course using the new ones is do-able but if unnecessary it would be a real bonus not to have to.

Thank you

I'm afraid that doesnt easily tell us which model it is

Looking at the pictures here https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/router-information/ whcih one is it ?

I'm guessing its a Hub one ?

You can certainly reuse the broadband cable but until we confirm the router model , not sure about the power cable

In reality , you can probably continue to use the old router anyway if its a Hub one.

Re: Router cables

Looking at the pictures our existing router is a huh 1. I was told 'We are sending you an upgraded router'

If I can reuse the cables I will do the changeover but if there is no advantage Maybe not.

I am a little confused because the instruction received is to only change the router on the day I get the email to say my new contract starts. Difficult to see how the router is involved.

Thanks for the help

Re: Router cables

Fix

Hi, @DaveDM

I actually have both a Hub 1 & a Hub 2 , neither of which are currently actively used. I've just checked, the power supplies are exactly the same spec and I've confirmed that the Hub 1 psu does power the Hub 2.

You're absolutely correct. Its just a standard email , really designed for people switching from one provider to another. You can use the Hub 2 immediately in your case.

The Hub 2 is a newer router and (in theory) has better wifi performance.

It does have two limitations though:-

1) it only has 3 available LAN ports ( the WAN port is only used for a Full Fibre connectIon )

2) the 2.4ghz & 5ghz wifi bands have the same name (SSID) and password , you can't split them like you could with the Hub 1. Some 2.4ghz only devices can struggle to connect.

If I were you I'd try the Hub 2 with the existing cable and psu. I suggest you change the wifi name & password on the Hub 2 to be the same as that of the Hub 1 , then you won't have to reconfigure all your wireless devices.

Shout up if you need any further help
