Router alternatives

Does anyone know of any third party routers which are more configurable than the default Plusnet router which will be compatible?

Re: Router alternatives

@paul1974 You kind of take your pick, there are any number of third-party routers out there, and PN allow you to use any of them. Are you on FTTP or FTTC?

@paul1974

PN have always been happy for customers to use their own equipment and provide the settings required in their Help pages.

If you're on FTTC you should get one that also works with FTTP if it comes your way.

Work out what you want from the router and then go looking.

Re: Router alternatives

Thanks for the messages. My connection is meant to be upgraded next year so it'll need to support both.

I'd like a router which I allows me to have a lot of control over dhcp and DNS. Ideally I can create my own local DNS zones and fix ethernet addresses to IPs. Support for DNS over https would be a requirement too. If you have any recommendations that would be great.

Re: Router alternatives

If you currently have a Hub two then you can configure it to be a modem (bridge mode), then you could then look for a router only device which supports a WAN PPPoE connection.

Can't help with the DNS over https but most  3rd party routers would have the basics you are looking for.

Re: Router alternatives

Thanks for the replies. To start with I think using a WiFi router connected to the Plusnet hub is a good start.

Re: Router alternatives

Thanks for the advice. I bought a GL.iNet GL-AXT1800 to plug directly into my Plusnet router. It comes with OpenWrt which made things a lot easier. I'm really impressed with it.
