Regular breaks in wi-fi

I have had full fibre and a Hub Two for a year. My PC is connected by Ethernet cable to the router, and I have had good service that way.

BUT.... At intervals, the wi-fi signal disappears, and comes back after a few minutes. This happens multiple times a day. Any ideas why?

Re: Regular breaks in wi-fi

@Brian5 I  am a little confused - do you mean you have other kit connected over Wi-Fi which loses connection?

Re: Regular breaks in wi-fi

My phone connects automatically to the wi-fi when I'm in the house, and loses a connection when this happens. And visitors have the same problem.

Weirdly, my smart TV seems to work normally. I wonder - does it have a huge cache? Seems unlikely...

Re: Regular breaks in wi-fi

Ah, that makes sense now, thanks. Does this happen when you are moving around with the phones, or when you are stood/sat in thee same place?

If you could export your error log, and post the resulting .csv file as an attachment to a post, we may be able o spot the issue.

Your router. Navigate from the Hubs Home screen>Advanced Settings>Technical Log>Event log.

Re: Regular breaks in wi-fi

There you go. I suppose it could be helpful to have a separate record of when the wi-fi breaks occur. But I didn't find any software for my phone (Android) which looked like it could do that.

Re: Regular breaks in wi-fi

A quick look at a section of that log suggests the equipment (your phone/s) are losing connection as you move around - 5G only has a relatively short range, and anything getting between the Hub and the phone could disrupt the signal.

As this is not an issue I suffer, and also one slightly out of my comfort zone, I think I will tag someone with more knowledge/experience, rather than possibly lead you down dead-ends.

Re: Regular breaks in wi-fi

No, it doesn't seem to be related to moving around, not least because my partner uses an iPad instead of my PC. She can be sitting there on the sofa quite happily for some time, and then suddenly complain because she's no longer connected.

Fair enough. As  I don't/never have used a Hub2 I will leave it to those with more knowledge/experience.

@Brian5

What device is trying to connect to one of the LAN port 2? Repeated connection attempts.

I would suggest a reboot of the Hub to see if that helps, last restart was June.

Not sure what you mean by "trying to connect to one of the LAN port 2". Anyway, I have re-booted the hub and we'll see.

@Brian5  what @Dan_the_Van means is that there is a device connected via an ethernet cable to port 2 of the router. This device seems to be frequently connecting and disconnecting. You wouldn't expect an ethernet connected device to do that.

Strange. That's my PC... I don't notice a problem when I'm using the PC. And the Internet Acccess symbol (bottom right of the screen) stays on.

Re: Regular breaks in wi-fi

Given the device name in the log I'd start to assume it was a Windows desktop device. Unless it has been renamed in Windows.

It also appears that the same device then tries to use wireless. The same device name crops up in the logs with two MAC addresses.

I'm having to assume that the wireless connection is failing due to possible authentication failures.
