Re: Plusnet Hub 2 new firmware forcing https

Thanks but this is not the reason. I have a local PC that I can connect to via VNC and can then try using the PCs Web Browser's via the local Desktop (Chrome, Firefox and Edge). Therefore, the HTTPS connection is directly between the PC and the Hub 2 and even with a local connection the HTTPS session just hangs. It's definitely a fault with the Hub 2 router.

OK - I’m no network guru, so I could be wrong, but I will wait and see what someone with more specific knowledge says, although as the initial request is not made on your local network...

Have you had a chance to try accessing the GUI locally on the PC, rather than via the VNC?  Does the issue still persist when trying locally?

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 new firmware forcing https

It’s not possible to try locally as I away for a few weeks. But I can reassure you that all other servers that are connected using HTTPS work fine via my VPN, or from my home PC via VNC. I’ve even tried wget this morning and the HTTPS sessions just hang. The hub 2 is definitely at fault.

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 new firmware forcing https

Is is possibly to disable the need to log in with the Admin password every time I want to see what devices are connected.

I really liked being able to see the connected devices on my Plusnet Hub1. The Plusnet Hub2 was almost as good.

I have a Raspberry Pi2 running "busybox httpd" so act as a local web server for notes and information.

I used to need look at the device map to find the IP address, but now I can use the hostname in http://RapsberryPi6 and it would find RaspberryPi6 if I had one called that!

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 new firmware forcing https

Would be be possible, to explain the need to use the admin password.

I thought it was a security breach where I had a malware that was phishing for my admin password.

All my devices are getting the same and my hub was updateed on the 2026-06-17.

It would be nice if it was possible to not need the admin password.

At the moment, I am locked out of access inthe hub!

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 new firmware forcing https

The need for the password is because whereas the log in to the Hub was previously over HTTP, it is now over HTTPS, which introduces an extra level of security.

Why are you locked out of access?

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 new firmware forcing https

A work around using hpppts://192.168.1.254 is https://hub or https://bthomehub.

It worked just now.

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 new firmware forcing https

Hi John,

When I followed the re-direct links after typing http://192.168.1.254 it just sits there timing out.

so i tried to guess a  hostname

http://hub and https://btomehub work, but https://plusnethub does not.

I tired pinging as well.

C:\Users\dough>ping hub

Pinging hub.home [192.168.1.254] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.254: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.254: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=64

...

So now I can log in .

By the way, It warns me that the certificate is not valid

@doug1 Are you using a BT rather than PN Hub?
