Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

I have just checked my router and it is showing
Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.263 Last updated 27/01/19
Is this the version I should be on? If not how do I update it?

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

@MKChris 4.7.5.1.83.8.273 is the patched version. You can ask the admin here to push the update to your router.

Just make sure you have not got anyone doing critical work near the time he does push it as your router will restart.

My 5Ghz is still running solid after he pushed the new firmware to my router by the way. Cheers.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

When this problem first occurred more than 12 months ago there were doubts and denials from PN who tried to blame everyone and everything except their router. I finally gave up and bought the HH6 which has been stable ever since and I can now access the internet in my home office (which is external to the house) thanks to a range extender. This extender would connect to the PN Hub 1 but wouldn't allow internet access. My Echos wouldn't connect to the Hub 1 and I often got authentication errors with other devices. With the current COVID-19 issues I will not be chancing going back to the Hub 1 even though there is a so called fix. I will hang in there with the HH6 until Dec when my contract with PN is up.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

@bobpullen

I am beyond frustrated with the service that I am receiving at the moment. Some days the broadband seems to be fine and I only get a couple of disconnections and some days the broadband is more off than on.

I work for the NHS and it is particularly important that I can connect with work at this time. Is there any way in which this problem can be resolved?

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

It may not be my place to say this, but:

(1) I had the firmware update a while ago and it doesn't seem to cure the problem, at least not fully.

(2) A workable solution in most cases is to just disable the 5GHz wi-fi band, which forces everything to use 2.4GHz and that seems problem free.

(3) Whilst my internet service is functioning acceptably, the internet speed is a bit slower and/or more variable than in normal times which is I guess down to network congestion. Living in a 0rural area is probably why this isn't affecting me much but I can understand why those in more densely populated areas may be noticeably affected. We do share bandwidth with those in our local area.

Stay safe everyone!

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

I've been a plusnet customer for a matter of only weeks.

Looking at the "Home network" tab on my router, I notice my laptop frequently has two entries displayed, with one of which being marked active.  And this persists even if I hit refresh.

I suspect there is a problem with the management of the DHCP mappings, which could lead to issues with ARP, and also DNS when a lookup is requested.

Please PlusNet, can you get the software developer to take a close look at the above aspects.

Doing without 5G makes the problem go away, but gives me awful connectivity and I really need the 5G bandwidth.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

I'm running the beta firmware, so posting this here

"Plusnet Hub One | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.273 | Last updated 26/03/19"

This morning I discovered that my Hub one had hung.  Phone had been left playing podcasts from local NAS - this had stopped overnight.  Phone had no internet.  PC (which is cabled not wifi) had no internet either.

I have a separate combined DNS & DHCP setup, I rebooted this first but it made no difference.

Trying to access hub one on 192.168.1.253 gave me 403 Forbidden error.  This may be because my PC had an unexpected ip address due to the failure - it's ip address wasn't in the 192.168 range as it would normally be.

Nothing on the lan could see anything else - cabled or wifi.

I rebooted the hub one, and very quickly the phone started playing podcasts again, after a minute or two the internet came back up as well, and all was fixed.

My hub one is usually very stable, excepting the wifi issues.

Thanks

Ian
