Hub 2 mains cable in white

Hi, first time poster

We have moved to a new house and are unlikely to get fibre anytime soon so I am trying to make the best of my Hub 2 router.  I need to move it to a more prominent place in the house but this means trailing wires, particularly the black 12v cable across a white wall.  I have looked into a male/female extension in white but I understand the hub 2 plug has an unusual internal size (3.1 rather than 2.1)

Has anyone done this or have any other suggestions/solutions?  I don't want to use cable trunking as that will look almost worse!  Thanks

Can't really help with your problem but have you checked to see if Full Fibre is coming.

I'm assuming there's no power socket near where you want the router. You could simply use an power extension cable along with a high quality phone cable.

Hi Brian, sadly the rest of the village was put on full fibre back in 2022 but because our telephone cable was routed underground back in 1976 - they did not include our property and open reach have no plans!  

The mains plug is just slightly too far away from where I would like the router and the cable would have to run diagonally past a radiator on the wall to reach it!  The telephone and ethernet cables I can get in white and track around the wall neatly but this mains is the pain!  Why do they do the router in white and then insist on black for the power - and whilst I'm on it, why no wall attachment options!  Luckily my son has a 3d printer and will be able to resolve that issue.  I will keep looking for a way around it (and getting full fibre!)

I went down the cheap shelf Perspex route, though mine is in a corner which makes it easier/stronger.

Is Altnet a regular fibre supplier?  I have tried but no one is interested!  Refuse to go down the satellite route for ethical reasons!

@Craftymum an 'altnet' is an 'alternative network' i.e. one that doesn’t run over  BT/Openreach infrastructure.

Looking at the Hub Two Power Pack you would need one which supplies

Input: 230v ~ 50 Hz 0.3A

Output: 12.0v DC 1.5A 18.0 W

+ve is the centre pin

Any colour cable can be converted to a passable white by wrapping it with plumbing PTFE tape, which is has characteristics quite similar to cling film. It is usually about 12mm wide, I have experimented, and with a 50% overlap a reasonably opaque white is achieved. Evenness is a matter of a bit of care. It does not tend to unwrap easily once in close contact with the cable.

The trouble with painting cable is adhesion is usually poor, and it flakes off. Then painting is a fiddle and expensive, but PTFE tape is quick to do, and dirt cheap (see Screwfix clearance, 10p for 10)!
