How do I Port Forward?

Hi, I want to view my IP camera whilst away from my property. I have been informed I need to set up port forwarding in my router, is that correct, and how do I do that?
I really require a dummies edition of instructions, the only thing I have done is acquire a static IP address. I have done a search but most of it just goes over my head.
My router is a Plusnet Hub One.

@tarren - it would be helpful to know the make/model of the IP camera if you're after explicit instructions?
