Yesterday Fritz! made public a 'beta' release of firmware v8.10 for a variety of their routers,

including a specific download for the '7530 AX' (as used in the subject of this topic).

Re: Fritz!Box 7530 AX for FTTC

@outcast So far, so good. Being conservative (in IT matters!), I've stuck with 8.02 so far.

Was *horrified* to find the maximum password length is a miserable 32 characters, and that same password must be used for both router login *and* IPSec VPN login!

Worse, when you do a password change and specify an e.g. 64 character password, there seems to be no warning it was not accepted.

Much worse, the IPSec Key (shared secred) seems to be hard-coded, and pathetically weak.

The only thing that stopped me putting the 7530 back in the box, and reverting to my troublesome Draytek Vigor, was the nicely implemented 2FA on the Fritz.

I guess nobody's perfect...

I've been using a 7530 for 4.1/4 years with no 'security' issues at all. I sometimes wonder if people get a tad paranoid over the issue?

How do you remember a 64 character password ?

You don't - I assume @markv  has a password store/manager, as I do. 😁

@jab1  I'm sure you've planned for the possibility of the Password Manager being unavailable....

Re: Fritz!Box 7530 AX for FTTC

@jab1 How fortunate you are.

My log files show 9,000+ DEAUTH attacks and 35,000+ failed password guess attacks. That's on WiFi.

Just 1,200 attempts to access my VPN.

That's in ONE MONTH.

I sometimes wonder if people are a tad complacent.

@Champnet I have, although it is synced across 4 devices, but there is a written version, and when I get round to finishing it, a Libre Office spreadsheet.

I don't need to remember 64 characters, as my Password Manager does thaty for me 🙂

They were attempts - which your  router and/or security software foiled, as designed. On the odd occasion I look at my security logs, I see a number of intrusion attempts , but they are all foiled.

Re: Fritz!Box 7530 AX for FTTC

How do you, or I, know they were all foiled?

Someone living within wifi range is a very persistant hacker. They only need to get lucky once.

Hence I like LONG, STRONG passwords.

Why would that be a problem for anyone here?

Sure I posted this before, but yes I have - it is synced across 4 devices, there is a written record, and when I get round to finishing it, a Libre Office spreadsheet on a locked pendrive.

Check the log entries.

It isn't.

Re: Fritz!Box 7530 AX for FTTC

@markv That;s an unhealthy number of failed logins attempts.  @jab1 's right, currently they're all being blocked but sooner or later your system is going to be compromised. What on earth are you runnng on your home kit ?

WiFi attempts are local to your system, have you checked with the neighbours especially if they have teenage boys ?

It's possible you have a fault on your network....
