@between1and16ch  Who are you actually replying to as your comment .."Presumably this was an attempt at retention???. Makes very little sense. if you have the router just return it, problem solved.

Re: Do I need to return my Hub 2 ?

@Graculus51 There has been a  quote here:

Charge for not returning Hub/router ordered after 1st February 2024	£50

You said you were given a router on 3rd March 2022. So no need to return it. Simples.

Re: Do I need to return my Hub 2 ?

Going by the 2 sets of opposing opinions stated above, it would seem to me to be so much simpler if Plusnet automatically simply sent you an email (and invoice if necessary) when you left them, telling you that you needed to to return the router (or not), depending on when their interpretation of your "joining" commenced.

They sent me a final invoice a month after I left for 1 day's service which was outstanding. A note re. the need to return the router could easily be added on your closing documentation.

Hi @Graculus51

It would be the joining date when the original equipment was supplied. If the router needed to be returned we will get in touch multiple times.

That is exactly what happens... Customers who need to return their router are actually sent five communications - the initial return request followed by reminders on day 14, 28, 42 and a final reminder on day 53.

@ExForce9 - add Zen to your list!

If we don’t receive the device back from you within 21 days of your cancellation date we will look to recover an amount towards the cost of the device. This can vary depending on the device we supplied you with and the table below gives you a view of what you could expect to pay if you wish to keep, or fail to return the device:

Device Condition / Status Price
Fritz 7530 / Fritz 7530 AX / Fritz 300 Repeater / Eero 6 Used (service cancelled) £65
Fritz 7530 / Fritz 7530 AX / Fritz 300 Repeater / Eero 6 Unused (cancelled order) £120
Eero 7 Used (service cancelled) £250
Eero 7 Unused (cancelled order) £550

All significantly more than Plusnet's £50.

Thanks for highlighting! Looks like it's an unlocked stock Fritzbox 7530 for £65? Great spot! Smiley

Re: Do I need to return my Hub 2 ?

So, because of my being unsure about getting a fine for non-return, (and currently unable to drive), on Saturday my sister has driven 20 miles to my house, packed it up, taken it to the Post Office and then gone home, because I was so worried about a potential penalty !

How would anyone know that they would be getting 5 email reminders if they had to return the router ?

I have found absolutely no reference to this anywhere in Plusnet's "Help".

Even the knowledgeable members here could not give me a definitive answer !

Plusnet should clarify this in their Terms and Conditions.

Re: Do I need to return my Hub 2 ?

We reuse and recycle our routers

When you return our router, we’ll take any working parts from it and see if they can be reused. We'll dispose of the rest of it in an environmentally friendly way. So it’s good for you and the planet.

That aspect has its advantages. Is there a way I can get labels for returning older devices that PN supplied to me, for responsible recycling?

Re: Do I need to return my Hub 2 ?

As many Plusnet customers are having their accounts moved to EE,  here are the EE equipment non-return charges -

.

.

The latest flagship Full Fibre (FTTP) router provided by EE is the Smart Hub 7 Pro, which features next-generation Wi-Fi 7 capabilities. For standard or slightly slower full-fibre speed plans, EE routinely supplies the Smart Hub 7 Plus (also a Wi-Fi 7 device).
If you fail to return either of these devices when your contract ends, EE will enforce the following explicit non-return fee structures:

Official EE Non-Return Fees
  • Smart Hub 7 Pro (Flagship Wi-Fi 7): You will be charged £125 if this router is not returned.
  • Smart Hub 7 Plus / Smart Hub 6 Plus: If you are issued the standard Plus model instead, the fee is £85.
  • Accompanying Kit: If you add any matching add-ons to your contract, the non-return fees are £85 for a WiFi Extender 7 Pro and £80 for the Hybrid Connectivity Backup 4G dongle.

Avoiding the Charges
EE will send you a pre-paid plastic postage bag and a trackable Royal Mail return label once your service cancellation is processed. Because EE's billing system automatically triggers these charges if the warehouse doesn't log the return within roughly 60 days, you must keep the Post Office drop-off receipt. If EE attempts to bill you due to transit delays, providing that tracking receipt is the only way customer service will waive the fee.
