BT Smart Hub

Hi

When I moved from BT to Plusnet in 2021 the router I was sent by Plusnet (Plusnet Hub 1) did not give me a particularly good speed so I programmed my BT Smart Hub 1 to use with Plusnet and it improved things.  I am now on a new Plusnet contract and use the Plusnet Hub2 they send me.  The service has deteriorated again so my question is can I programme by old BT Smart Hub 1 to use again on my new contract and is it likely to improve things.  If not any other suggestions.

Thanks

@johna1414 Your BT Hub should work on your new contract without any 'reprogramming', so long as you haven't changed product.

In what way has it deteriorated?

Re: BT Smart Hub

Hi, just slower than it was when i was using my BT SmartHub 1 when i had my old Plusnet contract.  When i signed up for my new Plusnet contract they sent me a new router which i am using at the moment but it is slower.

Re: BT Smart Hub

To be honest, that doesn't sound much like a router issue, but as I said above, there is no 're-configuring' needed on the BT Hub.

Try substituting it for the PN Hub2 and see how you get on.

@johna1414

which product are you now on,  it may not be suitable for Full Fibre.

Clearly you would need to change the broadband username password pair for you current contract.

Re: BT Smart Hub

definitely slower since the day i started on my new plustnet fibre product contract.  it came for a new PN Hub2 (the one with a circle on the front).

I know you say pages 'seem to load slower', but that is subjective. What speeds were you advised to expect, in your new contract?

Re: BT Smart Hub

Hi, yes i agree it is subjective but i have been with PN since since 2021 so don't really expect my new contract which started a couple of months ago to be worse.   i guess i have probably answered my own question here.  in 2021 when i moved to PN the router they sent me did not give me the speed i had with my BT router so i reprogrammed the BT Smart Hub 1 to work with PN.  It got better so i probably just need to go back to using the BT router again.

Are we talking wireless speeds here ?

I ask because the Plusnet Hub2 is basically the same as the BT Smart Hub 2, which in theory should be better than the BT Smart Hub 1 (and Plusnet Hub 1).

If the problem is just wireless speeds, then it could be as simple as changing the wireless channel. By default , routers are usually set for automatic channel assignment, meaning they scan for adjacent wifi networks and try to pick a channel with least interference. However they often don't do it very well!.
