Hello i have an Asus GT-BE98 can i replace the Plusnet router with their Router as i have done with EE.

You should be able to, yes.

You do need to put your Plusnet credentials in (EE I think works on generic credentials, for Plusnet they are specific to you).

Does it work Ok. Mine works really well on EE if it works as well on Plusnet i may change provider.

If you are on full fibre on EE but using your own router, the same speed on Plusnet should be an identical service.

I can’t think of a difference.

As I understand it you get a better router with EE but you are not using it.

the be98 is one of the best consumer routers out there, 2x10gbit ports and 4x2.5gb with wifi 7..... if you want a prettier router go with the ee one

It was the comparison between Plusnet’s supplied router and the EE router.

The Asus is much more capable than either.

Is it just me, or am I missing something ?

I don't understand the logic of owning a £600 router, that has many times the performance needed for ANY Plusnet broadband product, and then be considering moving to Plusnet with their very basic packages and almost non-existent and under-trained support staff.  Moving from EE, I would have thought you'd be looking for an broadband upgrade, rather than contemplating going to the cheapest bargain basement provider.

Presumably the purpose of owning such a beast of a router, is either to maximise the utilisation of high bandwidth full fibre connections, in which case using an AltNet with 2.5Gbps symmetrical FTTP capability seems more appropriate than Plusnet's less than 900Mbps asymmetrical offerings,  otherwise wanting to achieve the ultimate gaming experience with low latency and zero bufferbloat, in which case choosing an ISP that offers 'gaming' enhancements, or for example A&A who include the ability for the user to configure download traffic shaping and consequently re-order smaller gaming packets to be sent first with higher priority while at the same time reducing bufferbloat by managing your traffic before it reaches your connection.

Don't get me wrong about having expensive and highly capable routers, as that is my personal hobby too, I'm just not understanding WHY you would consider moving to Plusnet, when all they supply is cheap broadband for the undemanding masses - which they appear to do well.

Assuming that @Pip66 is a gamer, I looked up which ISP provide the most gaming enhancements on Openreach FTTP,

and the answer is -

EE (which uses Openreach Full Fibre) offers a Broadband Made for Gamers bundle (and related features on other plans) that includes genuine extras beyond a standard Openreach connection:

• Game Mode (via the Smart Hub Plus / WiFi Enhancer, powered by Netduma tech): Automatically prioritises gaming traffic (consoles and games) over other devices/apps in the home. It includes:
  • Geo Filter – selects higher-quality game servers and blocks laggy ones.
  • Ping Optimiser – claims to reduce server ping by up to ~24% in tests.
• Lower claimed latency on their Full Fibre (they cite >⅓ reduction vs standard broadband in monitoring tests).
• High speeds (up to ~1.6 Gbps download on the top tier).
• Bundled perks such as 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (on the dedicated gamer package) and Smart WiFi Plus for better whole-home coverage.
• 5G backup on many plans.

These are the most marketed “gaming-specific” tools available from a major provider using Openreach infrastructure. The prioritisation and geo-filter/ping tools act inside the home and on the path to servers; they don’t change the underlying Openreach last-mile fibre

We had another Asus Router before but that would not give us decent speeds all over our property so sent that back and got the GT BE98 instead with with the Asus Mesh system we already had this gave us the best WiFi we have ever had. Its not just for Gaming as only my Son plays games. I didn't want to go to EE but due to BTs TV system not working i was forced too. After the few months with EE trying to get rid of the TV package that would not work for me the started me on another two year contract which after a while i found was no good as it included their WiFi discs which are as useless as the BT ones  and after 18 Months they made me have the 4g back up system which i told them was no good to me as our mobile signal is rubbish. So ihave been paying a high price for tesh i never needed. I just wanted 900Mbps Broadband with security none of the othe rubbish. My contract was coming up for renewal and have been trying since 27/08/26 to do this. I have spoke to 5 different people over that time and i got a price i was happy with but i could not get it as everytime i got the contract summary it would always add on another £20 a month. This was passed on to people in another Department but nobody could figure it out. This was not just happening to me so there was no way to renew my Contract so i went elsewhere.
