I can understand the rationale, but setting up a new account for the sake of DPA shouldn't really be an option.

That’s what the gentleman said in the PlusNet Customer Options Department.  If Customer Services or Sales had put me through to them, then the issue would have been resolved much sooner.  He said he will raise these concerns to the relevant parties.
