New customer - wrong router?

Hi, I’ve just switched from Fibrus to Plusnet. When I was signing up The System identified my address as not full fibre and has allocated a Hub Two router. However we have full fibre to my Fibrus router.
1. Can I continue to use the Nokia G-2425G-B router with Plusnet?
2. If not will the Hub Two work with my fibre cable?
3. If not how do I change my order to get the correct router and what one should I request?

Many thanks!

Re: New customer - wrong router?

@darrylxxx Your Plusnet connection will not use the existing Fibrus fibre.

If you've ordered a Full Fibre connection from Plusnet, then Openreach will install a new Fibre connection and ONT (Optical network termination) to which the Hub 2 will connect using an ethernet cable.

If you've ordered a part fibre(SoGEA but confusing called Fibre!) connection then the Hub 2 will connect directly to a BT Master socket.

No.

Plusnet only use the Openreach network for broadband connections.

If you ordered Plusnet Full Fibre, then Openreach doesn't allow their incoming optical fibre to be terminated by anything other than an Openreach supplied ONT,  so you wouldn't be able to plug that optical fibre connector directly in to your Nokia's optical input socket even though it would probably physically accept it.

The other means of connecting a router to either an Openreach FTTP ONT, or a stand alone VDSL modem (for SoGEA), would be via an ethernet WAN port on the router.  Unfortunately your Nokia G-2425G-B doesn't have a dedicated WAN port,  and I also checked whether any of the LAN sockets can be reconfigured as a WAN port, but unfortunately they can't.

So no your Nokia G-2425G-B can't be used on a Plusnet connection, whether what you've ordered is FTTP or SoGEA.

Re: New customer - wrong router?

For anyone else that is interested, this is the back of a Nokia G-2425G-B combined ONT and router used by Fibrus.

... and before somebody asks can Openreach VDSL/SoGEA be plugged in to "TEL1" or "TEL2", no they are outputs for connecting telephone handsets to the internal VoIP ATA.

Re: New customer - wrong router?

@darrylxxx As @MisterW and @ExForce9 have explained your router is designed for the Fibrus network which is completely separate from the Openreach network than PlusNet use and for all sorts of reasons is totally incompatible. The PlusNet Hub 2 works with all the different services they provide so you will have to use that, at least initially.

It would be helpful for any follow-up to know what service you have ordered, this should be specified on the communications from PlusNet. It is likely to be "Full Fibre" (fibre to your home) at speeds from 74 up to 900mbps OR "Fibre" (FTTC - Fibre To The Cabinet) at speeds up to 68mbps but often less.

Fibre/FTTC uses traditional copper phone lines for the local connection from the cabinet to your home. Out of interest is there an existing phone line (used or unused) and master socket?

Re: New customer - wrong router?

@darrylxxx

The Openreach full fibre solution (which Plusnet use) is a "two box" system. The fibre goes to an Openreach ONT and then a copper network cable connects to the router you have been sent.

If Openreach "full fibre" isn't available, for a slower speed connection your copper phone line can also be used.

It looks like Fibrus is a "one box" approach.

I am the satisfied customer....
