Re: New customer router not arrived

@Dan_the_Van

if the OP has the FTTP version of a Smarthub then it repurposes LAN 4 as the WAN input, like the Plusnet Hub 2. The separate WAN port on a Hub one is based on the BT HH5.

@Baldrick1

The problem is we do not know which Hub he is trying to repurpose, he has mentioned a 'purple flashing light' which as you know means the Hub is working but there is no DSL or WAN connection.

My post was a suggestion to ensure the WAN port is connected to the ONT before tuning the Hub on, I didn't need reminding something I already know.

I agree we need to know which hub that @Keith187  is using. .We obviously need to be sure that they have not got a FTTC Smarthub and is plugging the DSL input into the ONT.

@Keith187

Does the rear of yout hub look like this with a red WAN label and is this what you are using to connect to the ONT?

As far as I am aware the BT HH5 does not have a purple light option. I therefore assume that it's either an Ultrafast Smarthub, which I think was supplied to retail customers or a later FTTP version of the FTTP Smarthub. I don't know if this was ever sent to retail customers,

Back when I was playing with these I found that I could seamlessly switch between the two inputs on my FTTC service by either connecting direct to the DSL port or via a modem using the WAN input. I used a business version for the extra features and so that I could gain access to the line stats by using a HG612 if required. Normally I saved the electricity!
