Hello all
FTTP is being installed imminently and my home number will obviously be no more.
However I do have a second landline (copper) which provides a work supplied phone number and business broadband which I use but doesn't belong to me and is paid for by my employer. I want this to remain and be left untouched during FTTP install.
Is this going to cause any problems and is there anything specific (other than the above) I should be telling the engineer when he arrives?
Many thanks
Fixed! Go to the fix.

Is the 2nd landline provided over a separate cable or does it use a 2nd pair in the only cable ?

There is only one box outside for both copper lines so sounds like it "uses a 2nd pair".
The work line then goes to a first floor socket that has been changed to split off the different phone numbers.

I had a similar situation and had communications from BT Openreach beforehand to confirm I was keeping the POTS line.
However I was the account holder for that line, so maybe they're in contact with your employer?

@pawlala in that case, all you can do, unless as @HPsauce says you've had communicatiom from Openreach regarding the 2nd line, is to make sure the installation engineer knows that the 2nd line exists. They don't normally remove existing cabling as a matter of course, but it the connection is underground they MAY want to try to use the existing cable to pull through the new fibre. Make sure they don't...

If the 2nd line installation and running costs have been met by an employer then they must be informed and be involved with any changes.

Isn't this a good time for your employer to upgrade their connection and have a multi LAN port ONT installed? One for you, one for them. At some point they have to go full fibre.

That's the plan by the sounds of it as I had an email a few weeks ago about a new router being sent, but this is the government were talking about so there are many cogs and many wheels...
I will be using the work broadband during FTTP install so will know if something is awry if it goes down and doesnt come back up.

@pawlala A new router will do nothing for you, if both lines are upgraded to Full Fibre (FTTP) you need a multiport ONT which is a rare beast. Also what have the government got to do with it?

Sounds as if the government is his/her employer, in which I can well understand the many cogs and wheels which readily seize up 😖

@Longliner You may be right, in that case nothing appropriate or sensible will happen.🙄

Yes I'm a government employee, so likely everything will be done last minute and at twice the cost. My preferred option is that my FTTP install does something to the copper 2nd line rather than a future work-FTTP install doing something to my personal FTTP.
I might end up in the situation of using my personal FTTP for both work and play, which is not a problem at all going forward.

That T&C has gone woolly. The explicit WFH inference has been removed, but the explicit prohibition of running a business from home remains.
I guess it is semantics of at which point WFH becomes running a business which is not your own.
