Full Fibre Setup - Where’s my WAN Cable

Going through what I hope would be the simple process of upgrading my existing PlusNet broadband/phone service to PlusNet Full Fibre 900.

It’s be a complete pain so far

1) PlusNet didn’t send me the new Hub Two router
2) OpenReach engineer turned up without a hoist so couldn’t run the cable from the telephone pole on other side of street - main road through village

To top it all off, I now find out I’m supposed to buy the wan cable that’s required to connect the router to the full fibre box! Absolute bonkers.

They ship a cable to connect the router to a phone line and a filter (which are completely pointless as they no longer do phone lines) but NOT the actual wan cable. I’m supposed to buy it myself from Amazon. You couldn’t make it up.

The Hub2 should have 2 cables. One with yellow ends, the other with red. Instructions state you plug the red cable in but any ethernet cable will do if you have a spare one.

As @bmc says you can use the one with yellow ends

Failing that, if you've got a Screwfix or Toolstation nearby they do network cables from £0.99 upwards depending on what length you need

Very interesting. Just had a Brad new hub2 shipped as the forgot to send one. It only included cables for connecting to a phone line. When I called PlusNet support Thu were adamant that they don’t ship the wan cable. Two different people said this,

I find that hard to believe to be honest. I can understand them not shipping a phone cable as they don't offer the product, but an Ethernet cable?

EDIT: did you not get an Ethernet cable with your previous router?

My apologies for asking what may be a stupid question. You said the box only included cables for connecting the phone. PN wouldn't ship these as the phone socket on the Hub2 doesn't work. For VOIP you need to get an ATA.

So stupid question time - are you sure the cables are phone and not ethernet? If more than one do they have different coloured ends?

I'm sorry but they gave you incorrect information. There are two router packages both including a Hub 2 , one for Fibre i.e via a phone line and one for Full fibre.

See the guide here https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/router-setup-guides/hub-two/full-fibre/ . The FF package should include the WAN (red) cable whereas the phone line version has the DSL cable instead.

Sounds like someone ordered the wrong package.

Don't they include any Ethernet cable with the FTTC package, @MisterW . They did with two TG582N routers they supplied me with for ADSL?

@jab1 yes,sorry if I wasnt clear.  The yellow ethernet cable is included with both router packages. Its just the DSL cable which is substituted for the red ethernet cable.

Ah, OK, so @GaryKinnear could use the yellow-ended Ethernet cable, then?
