Upgrading or changing broadband product.. do it with less than 4 days left

I decided to ditch my phone line on next Plusnet product and also get a faster fibre product.
Mistake No1 was not knowing I have to have Open reach come first. This delayed my new service by a week and then fell into a full price period of my old product.. i.e double bill £64 for July!
I asked customer service about this and he explained why.. as a gesture he credited me the difference although it would not reduce the July bill.. only August bills onwards.
Lesson? Give yourself a bit more time in advance .. if changing products, next time.

@grazuncle I assume from that that you changed from FTTC to FTTP?

Direct debit pay demands are set up by Plusnet before the last 4 days before they are claimed, so even if you had renewed on your old deal you would probably have had the same situation, that is, a bill with a large out of contract element this month and a credit next.
I would recommend that contract updates or changes are negotiated in the week after the last payment for the expiring contract has been taken. Remembering of course that you are billed a month in advance.
