Switching Supplier - Actions and Dates

Sadly I’m looking to switch providers. What actions do I need to take to ensure a smooth transition?

I already have Full Fibre (FTTP and OpenReach ONT) so I expect there are no physical changes. My primary concern is picking the right moment for billing purpose.

My contract end date is: 20th Aug 2025. Do I commit to switch a few days before this date, assuming I need an ISP router? Or on the 20th to ensure I complete my contract?

Might I ask the reasons ? If it's just price, have you tried calling COTS (0800 432 0080) to see if they can do a deal ?

The new One touch switching (OTS) system now used by all suppliers should make it simple.

You pay a month in advance, so if you wish to avoid paying the 'out of contract' rates, then you should start the switch soon after receiving your last bill before the contract ends.

Re: Switching Supplier - Actions and Dates

Thanks for the reply, saved me over-running Plusnet contract.

For Plusnet: As a long standing - roughly 25 years - customer very disappointing that you only offered a comparable deal after I commenced switching to another provider. The best deal your renewal process offered was £30 (and notice of two £3 rises in the 24 month contract). The OST offer was £25 ( with same forewarned rises).

Three levels of fail:

  1. Felt very much like ‘here are there renewal prices that we will milk from lazy customers’. No way to access better prices leveraging brand loyalty before I shopped with intent.
  2. The eventual OST email was titled test with no customer name.
  3. Finally the revised deal wasn’t cheaper than elsewhere. I do appreciate the upfront annual price rise honesty. However at least one competing offer was cheaper now and fixed for the whole contract period.

Thanks for all the bits…

Would that be one of the 'altnets' ? i.e a supplier not using the Openreach network
