Re: Set-up Static IP

The escalation has elicited the fact that this option has been discontinued.

Re: Set-up Static IP

Not the same, but I use free No-IP.com for anything that relies on a fixed ip. It is only any good if you run the updater alongside to update any new ip given after connection loss. the IP's aren't as sticky as some people seem to say. I get a new IP after every reboot/ loss, whereas on Sky I had the same dynamic ip for 3 years.

Re: Set-up Static IP

Any news on what it means for those of us that currently have a static IP?

Re: Set-up Static IP

Hi @Markuk the option for new static IPs was removed in October it looks like, those with existing static IPs will remain unaffected.

Re: Set-up Static IP

@JordanTA  You say the Static IP option was removed in October, to me it looks like that is not correct. There are several posts on the forum where customers have successfully got static IPs allocated in December, for instance this one ....

Static IP

Maybe it depends on who you speak to, I wonder who the very nice person is.🤔

@Townman  It's unfortunate that the Static IP option is no longer available for those that wanted one for a bargain one off payment.

Re: Set-up Static IP

This post from today (although awaiting confirmation from the OP) seems to contradict the ending of Static IPs.

Re: Set-up Static IP

The advice came from the business channel. As with any technology stack … things might be capable of being fiddled with. I’ve raised that post in the discussion thread.

What is technically achievable and what a business choses to sell will always be different considerations. I guess that Plusnet offering something BT / EE will not, does not fit the decreed position of the brands.

Re: Set-up Static IP

I guess its possible the actual functionality of adding it was still available to the call centre guides over the phone, but just going off the information we can find it should have been removed in October. Potentially this wasn't a set in stone date.

Re: Set-up Static IP

Is it possible that someone from management at Plusnet could update or create a new page under the help/FAQ? There are now multiple reports from customers that are all contradicting each other. Some report that today they’ve been assured over the phone that they can still order the static IP, others that being told they are no longer available. Also, it would be good to know what timeframe these are going to be supported for so that customers can plan alternatives if/when static IP’s are withdrawn from everyone. The comms from Plusnet on this have been non existent and to have a definitive page detailing everything in the same way when business and mobile was closed down would be appreciated.

Re: Set-up Static IP

Who / where has stated TODAY that static IP addresses are still available to buy?

The single recent reference to a successful allocation of a static IP addresses by @LexLex2020 has been clarified as a broken in-flight allocation started / paid for before the implementation of now not available.

The advice received on the escalation is that there will be no change for users already allocated a static IP address. Do not know what “other arrangements” it’s thought users can make beyond finding an ISP who still offers static IP addresses or explore the use of IP.com like services.
