Query re renewal contract cost

I’m approaching the end of my 24 month copper technology broadband + home phone contract @ £47.60 a month. Having logged in to the Plusnet website I find I am offered a 24 month renewal price for the same package of £26.99 a month. I am in my late eighties and wonder if this is right. Can anyone on this forum please advise me?

Re: Query re renewal contract cost

@ajax

You current contract probably includes a call package. The renewal offer probably doesn't include a phone service at all.

PSTN is being withdrawn sometime in the near future. PN will not be offering a VOIP service to replace it so you need to think about your landline - do you still need it?

You could phone the PlusNet Customer Options Team on 0800 013 2632 to discuss matters. If they offer a transfer to EE (who do both Internet and VOIP) say you'll think about it and come back here for advice.

While on the phone ask you you quality as a "vulnerable" person due to age (unless you're already registered with PN for this purpose).

Re: Query re renewal contract cost

Thank you very much Brian. I was assuming that the renewal price included the landline, which prompted my query. You have highlighted the probability that it does not. I still need a landline phone, so I will phone the Options Team to clarify.

@ajax

As you still need a landline you need to start researching VOIP so you're ready to move when the time comes.

Two main choices - move to an ISP who does both (easiest) or stay with PN and use an independant VOIP supplier.

@ajax

The name of the product you have been offered to renew or see on the members centre will be the clue of what's on offer.

Unlimited Fibre or Unlimited Fibre Extra will come with a landline line phone service.

Fibre/SoGE (Single order Generic Ethernet) is only a broadband service.

Both of the above use copper delivery technology.

Last November my renewal offer was for Unlimited Fibre Extra with Line rental. The line rental charge was discounted to £0.00 so the monthly charge was £25.99

Plusnet no longer offers Unlimited Fibre or Unlimited Fibre Extra, I'm afraid.

Re: Query re renewal contract cost

@ajax That is certainly true for new customers or existing customers changing products. However, unless something has changed VERY recently, it should still be possible for existing customers to recontract on their current product.

Are you saying that Plusnet have advised you its not possible to recontract ?
