Feeling duped!

A while ago, I rang to cancel and was talked into staying.  The person I spoke to was 'very helpful' and reassured me that I could stay with PN even if I moved, which I was planning at the time.  At the point that he said the price would increase to £27.99, I was led to believe that that would be after contract end, after 12 months.  Indeed, I wasn't told the contract was 24 months and that the cost would go up early

I was promised 33 MB and can only get 24, I didn't receive any new equipment, and so am likely operating on old tech and low bandwidth and there would likely be a large termination fee if I were to leave.  Talking of termination fees; should they not be called, 'Agree to an unsigned contract that allows us to harvest a set amount of money from you, with a mediocre service, no new tech and for doing not really much at all, because we really need to take as much money from you for doing as little as is possible'? They make you feel like they will be grossly out of pocket when, in actual fact it is the customers, that they care so much about, that is left short of funds, will struggle and find financial hardship, at this time of uncertainty in the world.  All this while BT Group, the owner of PN, is worth £19.83 Billion!

Money for nothing, or a great service?

Re: Feeling duped!

@garysmith676 Your first paragraph is a little confusing. What were you paying, for what service, before you rang to cancel?

'He said the price would increase to £27.99' - from what, and when?

Can you post, as attachments, your Hubs  'Technical Log - Information' page and the result of https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome - obscuring/redacting personal details in both.

What router have you currently got?

The contract, which you agree to when you say 'yes, please' is exactly the same type as you agree to for any service - gas, electricity, mobile calls/data - supplied to you over a fixed period at the price (and any increases) advised before you agree.

@garysmith676

I suspect the increase to £27.99 was the annual April increase which affects us all. Most providers increase their prices every April. The out of contract price would be much higher than that.

Every time I've phoned about a new contract, the advisor has restated the contract terms before ending the call. Also, within minutes, I have received at least 1 email confirming the details. Didn't you receive an email?

Your new service may not have benefitted from a new router.

In which case there could be a fault on the line ... what have you done to explore the nature of this concern?  Have you contacted support?
